In short: Don't upgrade until they fix the new software.

Here's why:

I have owned almost every version of TiVo over the years. (10+ units) I have really enjoyed using TiVo and have always seen each new version as an upgrade that was better than the last. So far the my new Tivo Premiere XL is proving to be the exception. I have read that they are still working on the software and will make it faster in a future update but in my opinion they should not be shipping this product yet.

For the first time in my TiVo experience, I'm having issues with freezing and ultra slow menus. The one thing I could always count on with TiVo was the rock solid stability. That is not the case with this latest version. I'm probably going to revert it back to the old menu system until they update the software to see if that gives me better stability. As is, the new menus are nice but they never should have made the update without having the stability locked down.

My recommendation is that if you have a TiVo, don't bother upgrading. (At least for now.) If you are new to TiVo, make sure you select the old style menus until you know they have fixed the issues. (Unless you are OK with restarting your system 2-3 times per day.) Trust me when I say, this is not the TiVo that I've come to know and love for so many years.

I was getting worried when I was having to restart my system a few times. Glad to hear i'm not the only one having these issues.

How does the Premiere running the old menu system compare to a Series3?

Are the spiffy new search and other features still available?

How about the speed of the old menus compared to them on the S3?
