If I'm still on GM 1, how do I get the the official? Thanks!

You should just be able to plug it into your computer, load up iTunes and click "check for update."

It tells me the 4.2 is the latest software.

If it's still showing that you have the latest firmware update, your other option is to manually download the update from Apple themselves. Links for various updates here:

Once you download the correct file, you can hold down the "alt" key and click restore in iTunes to locate the firmware file. (Make sure your iPad is backed up, obviously)
