I think there's still a while before the PS4 will come out considering that nothing much is heard about the PS4. I would get one if I were you since there are some great games for it right now like Heavy Rain and FFXIII. It also makes a great Blu Ray player.

It depends. If you're a gamer you won't be disappointed with the PS3. Games just look really good. As far as media content, PS3 lags a little behind Xbox 360 in my opinion. You get access to Netflix, Hulu Plus and Vudu and that's about it. Though for many people that would be enough. Multiplayer gaming on PSN is free as opposed to Xbox Live which costs around $50 a year. If you don't have a Blu-Ray player, the PS3 works great for that as well. I use my PS3 for playing Blu-Rays and the occasional game, but use my Xbox for most game playing and media consumption.

Now if you're basing your decision on when Sony will release the next generation Playstation, it's very much unclear at this point when the PS4 (or whatever it will be called) will come out. This article from techradar cites a source that said people shouldn't expect the next generation Playstation until 2014 at the earliest. If that's true, I would buy one now if I didn't already have one.
