If I get a Nexus One or another unlocked Android phone who do I get my updates from? Google? AT&T?
Every update ultimately ends up on the internet which allows you to update manually. That said the Nexus will get its updates straight through Google, since it is Google's phone.
Ah, okay, that makes sense. What is the average battery life on the Nesus One? Does it get you through the day like the iPhone 3GS or it is more like the HTV EVO?
i have never heard of 25hrs use on the Nexus One... on mine, i usually get through the whole day ending at about 30-20%. i listen to audio an average of 4 hours a day, with 1.5 hours of gaming (2D), and less than 30 minutes of calling. i use 2 app killers (which i need to ask you guys about) one killing on screen off and one killing every 30 minutes. i use airplane mood when im riding the subway and most of my work hours (9-5). i also use a home screen replacement. wifi at home.
This I do not know, I believe it gets a solid 12 hours, it definitely isn't as good as the slide(that I have) but I don't think its as bad as the Evo.
I've got a lot of web usage and play a lot of games and I usually tend to get around 25 hrs out of my Nexus One with daily use. Standby, around 40. I will say that with comparable usage, I get better battery life on my N1 than I did on my 3G iPhone.
That is quite impressive, I never heard of 25 hours with moderate use.
What are your settings like? I've been told time and time again it had to be charged every day ? I have to charge my iPhone every night.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
- Fully conditioned my battery
- Automatic brightness
- No Bluetooth
- Close out any programs when I'm done with them - not kill them with a task killer, but just return to the home screen
Fully conditioning your battery is the key. Check out Battery Left for help conditioning.

I don't use the phone part much, but I've found that that doesn't consume as much power as I expected anyway. I keep my screen set to around 30% brightness and GPS and Bluetooth turned off except when needed and with medium data usage throughout the day I have 40-60 % battery left over when I plug it in before bed. It is off the charger at about 8am and back on at about midnight. I had a heavy data usage day about a week ago and had about 20% power left at plug-in. The stats always say the screen consumes the most power.
I guess my problem is that I use GPS, wifi, and 3G all day. My iPhone 3GS hits 20% at about 9:00. I keep my screen at the factory default.
