I very rarely buy gadgets on impulse, but after I read about the latest update I somehow got it into my head that I wanted one of these.

I don't wear a watch, so I may end up with some serious buyer's remorse, but I kind of love the idea of having a minidisplay for glanceable data so I coughed up the $85 for it. Just arrived, so going to open it up now!

As an MSN Direct watch fanboy, I really want one, too, though I'm intrigued by that new Bluetooth-connected watch that Fossil has been teasing lately. Would love to see LiveView with a nicer wristband.

Do you have a link to the Fossil watch you are talking about? I have always loved Microsoft SPOT watches and am looking for a cool Bluetooth watch as a substitute to use with my Windows Phone.

E Ink has found it second calling. A small lowpower display seems about right for a watch. I still want MicroUSB though.

I saw this when Scoble first tweeted, thought it was awesome. If Fossil can bring it to market for less than 200 bucks, they'll have a a winner....if its not bug-ridden like the LiveView.

I had totally forgotten about this. Let us know how it is.

I bought one about a month ago. It worked as everyone says: you can set it up, but it constantly loses the connection to the phone (HTC Desire HD, but I've read reports that it's just as bad with Sony Ericsson's own phones).

Then they brought out yet another update. That one, once installed, makes it impossible to connect the gadget to their Live Update PC software, so now the phone and the watch won't talk to each other at all. Sadly, this was well after the return period.

My opinion of this device it, nice idea but as it stands, it's a colossal waste of time and money.

Totally agree. After a few weeks of frustration, this is going in a drawer. I'm using a new MetaWatch prototype with my Nexus One and it's a far better implementation. Yesterday I walked about 80 feet from my phone (forgot to grab it) and still got notifications. Not a single connection drop yet.

MetaWatch? Do you have more info on this, or a link? I loved the *idea* of the LiveView, but I really want something that works. ;)

Google was my friend today, and I read their (brief) site just after posting my last question... Looks like exactly what the SE LV *could* have been (apart from the fact that the SE has colour, but who cares about that if it doesn't actually work, eh?)

And now to wait for Fossil to actually bring the damn thing to market... <goes away, chewing fingernails and muttering to self>

phi, offered the link below (thanks phi!) and i'm hoping to show this prototype off on a video podcast later today. Will have more details / impressions to share here too.

How large is the metawatch? The SE MBW-150s work for me but they're kinda large. "Chunky" is what the fashionistas would call it.

To paraphrase John Cleese in the Monty Python cheese shop sketch: "I don't care how f*cking chunky it is, bring it forth with all speed!" ;)

Very cool. I was excited when I first saw it... sadly it doesn't work with Windows Phone or any other platform besides Ericsson. =/

It works with non-Sony Ericsson Android phones.

I had read it doesn't work with AOSP roms for some reason. I need a find a place I can buy and return easily if it doesn't work.

I thought about it too...but I'm gonna wait for version 2, if there is one.

Then again, SE did 3 cycles of their bluetooth watches and now they're defunct....I got their MBW-150 (which I can't add to gdgt since there is no category for bluetooth accessories) and the face got all scratched up. Even though they claimed it was scratch-proof. A call to SE support later, I was informed they couldn't fix it or replace it even if I was willing to pay for it.

I'm running CM7 on my Incredible. Any ideas whether this thing would work?

I've been eyeing this for a while, but the initial reviews kept me away. Keep us updated!

My guess is that it's going to be resting in a drawer in a month... :p

I have to admit to wanting one of these in the worst way. There are too many gadgets and too little money these days, though. If your feedback comes back really positive, I may have to keep an eye out for used ones.

I've decided to return it. There are a few reasons why, like that the screen isn't that great (not that I was expecting much!) and the controls are not particularly intuitive, but the biggest issue is that I while I could successfully set it up, keeping it paired with my Nexus S was impossible. The device is useless if I have to go and manually re-pair it every time I want to use it. I suspect I'd have more success with a Sony Ericsson phone -- and props to SE for at least making the LiveView even nominally compatible with other Android handsets.

Oh well, thanks for saving me the money! Ha!

Exactly why I ended up steering clear of the LiveView after all the bad reports of not being able to maintain a constant pairing.

I spent an extra 100 bucks and got the MBW-150 and use openwatch for Android...works great. All my notifications get routed to my watch.

The pairing issue was really the dealbreaker, I could live with the rest.
