of the obvious favorites (Angry Birds, Rolando, Peggle), and even then, a lot of the most popular games seem to be casual and/or puzzle games.
I own a Nintendo DS, and my favorite types of games to play are RPGs and adventure games. Series I've enjoyed include Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton (yeah, yeah, I know, puzzle games but I like the exploration aspect of it too), games made by CING (Trace Memory, Hotel Dusk) and occasionally Pokémon.
I don't particularly enjoy platformers or fighting games, and can't stand racing games.
So given the information above, can anyone recommend iOS games I might enjoy?
Discussion about
I've been considering trying out more games on my iPod (touch 2nd-gen, running iOS 4), but I don't know much about the games in the App Store outside…
Have you ever been into the Elder Scrolls series on the PC side of things? Aralon was just released, and a former artist for Morrowind (third part of the Elder Scrolls series) contributed to it:

That said, I know a lot of people who have played more traditional RPGs don't seem to enjoy the Elder Scrolls games, but it might be worth a shot!
But there definitely seems to be a lack of anything more than casual games out there. I want something deep and consuming as well!

I'm not much of a PC gamer; I could count on one finger the total number of PC RPGs I've played: Knights of the Old Republic.
On consoles it's a different story; I started playing games by Square starting on the Super Nintendo. I've played most of the Final Fantasy games (I've got XII running in the background as I type this) and loved Chrono Trigger. I also have a warm spot for the Suikoden series from Konami.
The fact that I've mostly played JRPGs in my life probably explains why I haven't found anything that screams "play me" in the App Store; of all the major Japanese publishers, the only one I know with a real presence there is Square Enix (has anyone played Chaos Rings?).

If you tend to play JRPGs on other platforms, you could always check out Zenonia and Zenonia 2 on the iPhone. Both are very traditional RPGs that resemble some of the RPGs from the Super NES era. There are demos available for both.
I have not played either Zenonia game but they seemed to be well-received by critics and popular with iPhone users.

Puzzle and exploring you say? :P Have you tried Broken Sword: Directors Cut, absolutely EXCELLENT GAME! :P took 2-3 weeks to complete it but then i didn't use the hints at all, so if you use the hints in the game's pause-menu you can probably finish it in a few days. But i mean like, it's a REALLY good game. Beneath a steel sky is also VERY GOOD, not as good as Broken Sword but still a really fun game :)
