I think there are a HUGE number of fakes on the market from even reputable dealers.
I suspect this accounts for the strong variation of love & hate for the same product. (Also, look at expensive razor blades online and see similar patters)
Yeah this happened to me. When I bought an apple in ear, it was a fake. So, after that, for any apple product, I buy it only from the apple store.
