I think more companies should try and go with this angular aesthetic.
I was really surprised but pleased that Apple went with such defined edges on the iPhone 4. Sony just needs to look at some of their past designs and they might actually start making interesting products again.
I was intrigued by the iPhone 4 in that it's a very dated, quasi-90's-Japanese aesthetic in my view. Ergonomically and in terms of styling, I thought it was in some respects a step back from the previous iPhones.
I do think we'll be seeing a popular rehash of the 80's truly angular aesthetic fairly soon. (Except for Lenovo Thinkpad, which *is* actually forever 80's) The time appears to be ripe. Just as they don't bring back the hair and the pastel jackets with the rolled up sleeves (will I ever live the shame of that down in my subconscious), I'm OK with that.

I agree. I don't like Apple's usual design, their stuff looks too heavily designed like it's screaming at you how carefully designed it is...but the iPhone 4 is a great looking phone.
I like my hardware to be understated. I like devices that have a mostly functional form with a little bit of flair.
