I received an iPhone 5 Case - who wants pictures?

Hey everyone!

I can't disclose my sources, but an iPhone 5 case showed up on my doorstep this morning.

Here is a Picasa Album: https://picasaweb.google.com/110587472446032650660...

The dimensions of the iPhone 5, according to this case, will be 120mm in height (length), 65mm in width, and it will taper from 8mm to 6mm.

This case is EXTREMELY thin. If this is the final design, Apple will have a totally knockout product. It definitely fits a much wider and taller phone than the iPhone 4, so we should definitely have a bigger screen in our hands - at least 3.7". The camera slot is quite bigger, leading me to believe that we will definitely see a camera with more MP in the iPhone 5. The taper is amazing, and reminds me A LOT of what This Is My Next posted last April: thisismynext.com/2011/04/22/iphone-5-design/ (it's almost eerily accurate).

Thoughts?

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

Well, it's obviously larger than the iPhone 4. Sweet!

OK. Looks amazing. Hopefully it's real :)
I guess we'll know soon enough...

My source also confirmed the many time lines we've been hearing about. Announcement at the "end of September" and "release in the first half of October".

Here is another one. www.iphone5casestore.com/338-tpu-skin-case-by-rooc...

The purpose of my post was to show a case that has been affirmed as a real/plausible design.

Extra confirmation on all these case leaks we've seen is always good!

Hmm.. interesting.

Yes, that's VERY similar. Only thing I don't see is a hole for the second microphone near the headphone jack. May just be the angle though.

It also looks like it matches up against the photos leaked out by Casemate: www.bgr.com/2011/09/15/iphone-5-to-have-radical-ne...

So crazy.

It definitely matches up with what we've heard about the phone so far and looks similar to previous case leaks. The looks similar to that of a 4th gen iPod Touch although the phone is definitely larger and perhaps a tad thinner. The volume rocker looks like the one on the iPod Touch, which would be horrible with iOS 5's volume up shutter key feature. So is the hole on the right side for the silent switch or the camera key?

Silent switch. They moved it for some reason. I'm assuming we'll find out the real reasoning soon.

Oddly enough though, with this button configuration (the bigger longer volume buttons) it will actually be a little easier to take pictures than with the iPhone 4s small, hard to press, circular button.

If they're anything like the 4th gen iPod Touch's volume buttons, then they'll be horrible. The iPhone 4's circular button was on a flat surface and provided a very solid tactile feedback, not really to the point where it's that hard to press.

Yeah, the iPod touch volumes buttons kinda face away from the user, so you have to reach around the lip in order to press the buttons. This wouldn't be ideal for a shutter button.

for the most part we all know whats coming in the OS. we now have a good idea about the design of the new phone or one of them if you believe we are going to see 2 different models.

But what does this bigger screen and phone do for the existing apps?
  1. how wil they look will they need to be tweaked for the larger display?
  2. will we still see the retina display on the new one or something else?
  3. with a retina display on this will that mean we will be running iPad apps on this screen? (juts a joke not being serious here on this one).
what do you all think of the larger size a good thing or bad would you upgrade from the 4 to the 4s or whatever its going to be called? Personally i will upgrade to it as i have with all the other models and i will gift my iPhone 4 down to some relative that wants it.

So do you have a reason to believe it is real?

Yes. It's from a legitimate source. It also falls in line with the designs that have been leaking from case manufacturers recently. Unfortunately, I can't say more.

Crazy! When Case-Mate leaked photos last week, I speculated on whether or not there was a space for a dedicated camera switch. It appears this slot doesn't exist in the photos you posted. Any hints about what's on that side? SIM card access? Potential button? Maybe nothing?

See previously: gdgt.com/question/am-i-seeing-a-space-for-a-dedica...

Well a SIM card slot most likely wouldn't show up on a case and a dedicated camera switch would be duplicate functionality with the volume up shortcut.

Yes, but see my previous discussion on why I think a dedicated camera button is potentially needed. (Your fingers can potentially block the camera lens when you hold it in landscape to take a photo with the shutter.)

A dedicated camera button is always a good thing to have on a phone but unless Apple puts in a camera really worthy of an extra button (in the world of Apple design, an extra physical button that does something which can be achieved by software is crazy), it seems unlikely for them to have a dedicated switch instead of the volume up key.

That said, the placement of the volume buttons is horrible for picture taking because as you said, you might cover the lens and then also it's in the wrong position for a camera. (In landscape orientation, the volume rocker is still on the top right and the camera is on the bottom right.) As discovered with iOS 5 beta on the iPhone 4.

Apple definitely isn't one to put a button with only one function on a device. Maybe if the home button is extended (with multi-touch), you will be able to take pictures with it by sliding up on it or something.

In iOS 5 on the iPhone 4 you have to be EXTREMELY careful if you try to use the volume up because fingers get in the way so easily. The button really needs to be on the right edge parallel to the home button. I don't see anything like that though.

Looking at the case, there is nothing on that side other than where the silent switch has been moved. It's possible, because of the taper, that this case won't actually come over the topside of the phone which would leave room alongside the edge for another button, but the Magic 8-ball says: "Not likely."

Well there are so many speculations about upcoming iPhone 5 that I don't know in witch to believe.

But one thing is for sure that I would like to see back to the iPhone like this acafrao.com/iphone-5/

This could sound a bit out of the my range of knowledge but iPhone 5 cases won't be released for a year so meanwhile you can check related information here cobases.com/

Well you have to change the old iPhone 5 case the reason is new iPhone is more slim.
I would like to go with marvel case , this is a good post www.iphone5casesbuy.com/article/marvel-cases-for-t...

I am sure the avengers will rock this case.
