I'm pretty sure Microsoft is retarded... Why?

Microsoft got into the Console gaming market because Nintendo and Sony were simply kicking PCs ass in game sales in the late 90's, early 2000's. And for good reason; as far as I can tell, there are two big reasons for "Console" gaming as opposed to "PC/Computer" gaming. A: you never have to update hardware on your console system (other than buying additional controllers). And B: Consoles offer you the ability to chill on your sofa, or comfy chair and engage in some interactive fantasy in comfort (as opposed to sitting at your desk, in front of your computer).

How does this relate to Microsoft being retarded? They are planning to release new hardware as an add-on to their X-Box 360 entertainment system (Console) that allows the user to physically act within the interactive fantasy. Does this not fly in the face of the most attractive features of Console gaming?
If I wanted to stand up and act out fantasies I'll go outside (which I do from time to time). It's free. Till then, give me a joystick, a beer, and a comfy chair when it's "game time".

Sorry.. let me get your argument straight here. Microsoft added optional functionality to a system you already seem to appreciate, while keeping everything you already enjoy intact and this makes them retarded?

For an arguement that bad, I vote you a troll sir.

And some how you think only Microsoft is doing this, Nintendo was first now sony, all three have motion controls and normal controls. But this isn't going to change one thing on the 360 or PS3.

Take this to thought, it is not just for flailing you arms around. It has full speech capabilities for in game chat or control of AI units. Imagine Army of two 3 where you use a controller and are able to tell your partner where to go or come heal you with out a headset, or pointing to a location on the screen and him going there. Plus with connect in shooter imagine being able to tilt your head to the side and look around a corner without exposing your body. The possibilities with this and hardcore games are much more then flailing arms and moving off the couch.

I can't wait to find out what my neighbors across the way think when they see me flailing my arms and yelling things at the television in our apartment.

Then again, I already do this whenever I watch sports...

isnt this already the case with the wii? no doubt this will make it worse because theres no worry that the remote will smash into the tv

Good points all around, however, it looks more like the Wii and new PS3 movement-based controllers are designed around -=enhancing=- control that already exists, not re-writing the book (all, save one (Tiger Woods 2010) of the Wii titles i own can be played from the comfort of my aforementioned comfy chair). I think these devices give consoles something the PC did well - point and click simplicity. In fact, I would argue that control method was one of the last strong selling points for PC gaming.

Kinect isn't designed for the 40 hour RPG/FPS sessions. The traditional games that have so far fuelled sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 aren't going to utilise this device much, if at all. Microsoft are targeting the casual/family gamers who would be interested in the Wii. They're trying to move the Xbox 360 out of the hardcore gaming niche and turn it into something that appeals to a wider audience.
