I'm a new Verizon customer- Droid X or Incredible?

Both will make you happy. Here are the differences:

- Screen size and physical device size. This could be the determining factor for you alone.
- Droid X has HDMI out via a mini HDMI port. Incredible does not.
- Droid X is scheduled to get Froyo in the coming weeks, the Incredible has Froyo promised but no set date as of yet. The Incredible will not be able to shoot HD video until the Froyo update.
- Android skin. The Incredible has HTC's Sense, which is easily a much more elegant and intuitive skin than the ninjablur skin on the X. However, unless you're really nitpicky, either will serve you fine.
- The Droid X comes with 8GB internal storage and a 16GB microSD card. The Incredible comes with 8GB internal memory and a 2GB microSD card.
- Only the Droid X offers the 3G mobile hotspot for up to 5 devices. It is $20 extra a month, however.
- Keyboards - It's a matter of preference. The Incredible has HTC's keyboard, which some people swear by. The X has a true multitouch keyboard as well as Swype. Plus it has a much larger screen size which makes typing easier. Try both out, see what you like.
- Oh, and the X has a 854x480 resolution while the Incredible has 800x480. It's 54 pixels, but maybe that'll give you another line of text. :)

Either phone will serve you fine. Biggest deciding factor for you will probably be the size of the device. But then again maybe one of the other points will change your mind. (I just ordered the X - the screen size was just too awesome to pass up.

Hope this helps!

Awesome response gsd!

As a current Incredible owner, and soon to be DroidX owner, I wanted to weigh in with a very blunt, personal, and slightly unprofessional opinion........HTC blows. The SenseUI is very nice, but the mass amount of crapware that HTC includes, and locks so that it can't be removed with out rooting, is a major deal killer. I have also been having a lot of issues with the A2DP Bluetooth streaming in my car that HTC has been less than willing to help with. But it did lead to a great customer service experience with Verizon and a replacement/upgrade to the DroidX.

If I'm not mistaken, the X comes with Need for Speed and what not. I don't believe what you are referring to is crapware. It's just HTC's set of things to replace stock Android's

It's actually only a trial of NFS. You can do a quick race but the rest of the game is locked.

While I wouldn't classify it as crapware, I just wish companies would let you uninstall them. If you're not gonna use it you shouldn't have to have it on your device. The whole idea of Android is choice, am I right?

Yeah, I have heard that there are a few apps that come preloaded on the X too. Haven't heard if their locked or not though.

And I'll agree that not all of HTC's preloaded apps are "crap". But a few are very persistent in the way they constantly launch in the background and eat up resources. CityID is one of them.

Regardless of my opinion on what's junk or not I don't like the idea of being locked out from the ability to choose what I want installed or un-installed.

That's why it's so important to have a task killer of sorts on an Android device no?

Absolutely! A must have to help keep the battery from draining too fast.

Honestly I'm just being a whiny, pain in the rear about wanting to maintain the openness philosophy of Android and the way HTC, Motorola, etc. are already starting to lock access down goes against that philosophy and gets under my skin.

The reality is that unless you're willing to shell out the bucks for a Nexus One users will end up rooting their Android based phones to regain control over the system.

That is true but we'll have to see what Google does with 3.0. I hope they just give Android a whole new experience and lock it down somewhat. Or ever just have a switch in the settings for the skin.

They can customize things all they want - all we need is the option disable some or all of it.

I agree that CityID should never be included in a phone's rom

I agree largely with gsd.

^The X is thinner but larger because of the screen. The camera hump might be an issue for some as it affects the way you hold it.

^The backing of the Incredible might be ugly to some but its only cosmetic not affecting anything really

^HTC Sense is a lot better (in my opinion) than the weird Blur-ish skin on current Motorola DROID phones (though if you can find a way to root stock android that would be optimal)

^The X is also newer so that might be something to think about

^If you really care about having the newest version of Android you might want to take a look at the track records of both HTC and Motorola...

^This (www.geeksugar.com/Droid-X-vs-Droid-Incredible-8892...) is a good link for the specs

^As for buttons, the X has physical buttons and the Incredible has a optical trackpad with capacitive buttons

Hope this added to the previous comment :)

Only thing I can add is that the Battery Life on the Droid X is much better than on the Incredible which was the big deciding factor for me. The Incredible has up to 146 hours of stand-by and up to 312 minutes usage; the Droid X has up to 220 hours of stand-by and up to 480 minutes of usage. That can make a huge difference.

After much debate and no need for a physical keyboard (ala Droid 2) I'm going with Droid X. The HTC's Sense UI is compelling, but the battery life is my main concern. Droid X kills on that department. Thanks for the replies!
