I'm a bit annoyed that Boxee hasn't made any announcements about the remote.

They'd said several times that it would "be released before the Box," but apparently the Box is just delayed because of software. So what about the remote?

They're probably timing it to release close to when the Boxee Box is release, which is pushed back until November. I don't really see a point to releasing a remote that may or may not work with other set top boxes, especially since this uses the less prolific RF rather than the outdated, but still very much in use IR. I wouldn't see them making much cash in selling this remote as a standalone product yet.

The point of the remote is not to work with other set top boxes. It's to work with other Boxee installations. And why does the signal type matter? Presumably they'd be releasing the remote with an RF dongle. They'd have to, otherwise there would be no way at all to talk with other devices.

My best guess is that they don't want people buying the remote now and getting comfortable with their own Boxee installations, so they don't buy the Box when it's released.

I think the original point of releasing the remote before the box is that they knew they could have the remote ready and getting people to buy that would keep them happy until the box came out. Releasing it too far out in front of the release of the box would negate any excitement people had for the product.

Sorry, but that doesn't make much sense. The Box will be shipping with a remote, so it doesn't make sense to give them the remote first. I was under the impression, and I'm pretty sure they might have said this at the GDGT live event, that they were selling the remote separately so that users who already had their own Boxee Box could add the remote to it.

I heard on the Engadget show when Avner was on that they were most definitely shipping it out earlier than the actual Box. Now that the Box is delayed I would venture to guess that they're just time shifting the delay onto the remote as well.

I for one would certainly buy it to use with my current Dell Zino HD/55" HDTV setup b/c I use Boxee so frequently and get annoyed when I have to reach for the keyboard to type something in.

And no I will not buy that joke of a product Lenovo released that is a trackball & qwerty keyboard...give me the Boxee Remote!!!!

Incase anyone else has been wondering about when/if/where the remote is to be available separately, I asked @boxee today about the remote, and got a quick reply saying they're working with d-link to get it out soon.
