I love Gdgt, but...
...but I can't help but notice that all the reviews of Apple products get significantly higher scores and much, much more positive reviews than competitors. Take Apple's iPhone 4S. Gdgt claims it has a "speedy processer", but clocking in at 800 MHz, the original Google Nexus one, a device made in January 2010 *creams* it at 1GHz! Also, it's RAM is 200MB, while Samsung's S III has 10 times that much! An "even better camera?" at 8MP, HTC's Titan II has *double* that, with it's 16MP back camera! "A new antenna design with better reception?" Isn't it implied that a phone should work as, well, a phone? I don't think that by any means that should make a phone have a 94/100 score, the highest phone score, ever! And as far as carriers go, There are much better Android phones on EVERY OTHER CARRIER!
Please let me know what you think, and also, I'm not going to keep ranting, but this is true about EVERY APPLE DEVICE on this site!!
Also, I'm not an Apple hater. I use an iMac, a MPB, and an iPod touch.
Thanks

I am not a Gdgt employee, however I believe the gadgets are scored based on an aggregation of critic reviews, and user reviews from the site. Thus if critics (other sites) and users give it higher scores then it will get a higher gdgt score. Someone please correct me if I am wrong
Now I am not sure where you got your numbers, but the iPhone 4S has a dual core A5 1Ghz processor and 512MB of ram. A lot higher than the numbers you gave.
I don't think an iPhone has ever had a 800MHz processor. The 3GS had 600Mhz and the iPhone 4 had a 1GHz processor.
Secondly, specs don't always tell the whole story. Processor technologoly has come a long way in the past several years. There is a reason why an ultrabook today with a 1.5GHz intel core i7 processor is faster than a Pentium 4 clocked at 3.2GHz. You simply can't compare phones like that. What you should be comparing is how each runs its respective software. Perhaps iOS6 runs nicer on a 1GHz processor than Android 2.3.7 (which is what my nexus one runs, unless there was an update i missed) runs on a similar processor. Same goes for optics. I believe sony makes the nicest optics for cell phones, so if you were to compare a sony 8MP shot to an LG 8MP shot, I would tell you the sony is better 100% of the time. The thing is, Apple is now using Sony Exmor R sensors in the iPhone making it actually take quality shots.
I realized I completely dodged pretty much your entire concern, so I apologize for that. It is incredibly difficult to sum up an entire device experience into one number to represent a score.

If you look in our Help and FAQ section you can see how we determine our scores gdgt.com/help/#gdgt-score Please read this over to get a better understanding of our process. If you have any other questions please ask.
You are hater, please look in the mirror and repeat, "I'm a hater" until you realize that you're argument is silly. Let's look at this in a few parts.
1. Apple fans and many people in general love their Apple devices. So someone who reviews an Apple product may possibly love it more than they love a similar Sony or Samsung device they own. For example I love my iPhone 4 more than I love my PS Vita and I would rate the former higher than the latter. They are different devices, but I see that Sony could have improved the experience in more ways than Apple could have and I think that trend many times holds true.
2. Stop trying to compare to Android. Android is not nearly as simple as iOS and it's fundamentally different to compare 2 devices with much different operating systems. If a friend recommended you buy either a Toshiba Ultrabook or a Macbook Air you would have to realize that they are going to run much differently. However, comparing a Sony and a Toshiba Ultrabook is a much closer comparison.
3. Relax bro, I'm not a hater, and I'm not hating on you, just telling you what's up like the wise man in the back of the room who wants you to stop sounding like a fool. You're not hating because the products are expensive, which I used to do before I could afford them, so relax.

I don't think the score is purely a function of the site, rather, it's more the incredibly over hyped opinions of professional reviewers and such. While some of your specs on the iPhone were off base, I agree with you that it seems nuts that the 4S is the highest rated phone on the site. I just don't think gdgt is responsible for it.
