I know that Samsung has literally just seen the iPad 2 and redesigned for that, (same for the original Galaxy S) but I can't help but think that they are…
improving it...
What do you mean by "improving it"?
I count myself to those kind of people who don't see that much similarity between "Tab" and "Pad" and "S" and "i" except the glass on the front. (ok - the original Galaxy S - if you look at it frontally...yes - it's true. But now...) They are all pointing in the same direction - but not only Samsung and Apple. So you can only differentiate one tab from another by looking at the position of the buttons - the materials - the screen (resolution, ...) - the thickness - the radius of the "rounded corners" and the OS. (pointing on the "...just seen the iPad 2 and redesigned for that...")

Well, you make the points there, (apart the fact that honeycomb is an actual tablet OS unlike iOS IMO), hardware-wise, the new Galaxy tabs are simply better hardware: thinner, faster, bigger (slightly preference), lighter, higher res and apparently better proportioned for holding etc....
It just seems to me that while Samsung should also try to innovate themselves, it seems a little wrong for everybody to simply rag on them... They are taking stuff that is in the market already and changing it for the better, not just KIRFing it... That is the way that markets always work, people taking the good stuff from their competitors and trying to improve and that can only be a good thing for the consumer...

Yeah - you're right with the hardware-improvements and I think I'm with you in every aspect. But I think they only looked at apples device in terms of thickness and price... nothing else. I mean - they all look kind of the same. We can also say - they improved the Xoom... for me - the GalaxyTab 10.1 looks way more like a xoom than an ipad. (may that impression comes from the landscape-format of both) I think they made it thinner and lighter than every tab at least. So I would say - they looked at the tablet-market and made one of the best devices so far.
I think you can also see the same thing in their Galaxy S II, which has been dubbed the best smartphone out there: (www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-re...) ... I've heard people say that the GSII is a bit of a rip of the iPhone 4, but I (and many others) think that they have put together the pinnacle of technology together into the best package that there is at the moment...
