I know I'm not the only one who used to have these, this was like the Guitar Hero of 1999.
I have one set of Sega branded ones and one set of Nyko ones, both in box, about 20 feet from me. I have about 3 copies of the game as well. I loved it. Actually, I think the Nyko set was superior to my Sega set of maracas, which was rather perplexing to me at the time.
A few weeks ago I was in the game section of Toys 'R' Us and found Samba De Amigo on Wii for $5, so I had to pick that up for nostalgia sake. My little girl loves it. Maybe it's time to get the Dreamcast off the shelf, dig out one of my VGA boxes and hook it up for some 2 player Samba Action, old-school style.
FWIW, the boxes themselves are great.

I always wanted to play the original game with the maracas but they are so hard to find....
I've only played the wii version using the wii-motes and its a fun, if limited game...

This was the greatest videogame in the history of gaming. Bar none. Samba de Amigo will hold a special place in the history books!
Tequila!
I had th original maracas and two cheap knockoff third-party ones, one that was DOA and another that actually worked.
I wonder if I still have them in a box somewhere. Can't remember after my last move.
