I have started to get intermittent disconnects on my PC connected via ethernet, and dropouts at the same time on devices connected via WiFi.

I've had this router since August or September of 2009. It has worked really well up until now. I thought it was my ISP at first until I connected ethernet directly to PC instead of through router when issues were occurring and had no problems. It often starts happening more when I'm using multiple devices at once (streaming tv show over wifi to PS3, while trying to browse on iphone, while downloading on PC through ethernet), but does still happen at normal times. Is this something where I could take it to an Apple Store and have them look at it? It does get pretty hot, maybe overheating? I'm not great with network settings, but I haven't needed to look into those with it before and nothing has changed with my network lately so not sure why it would just start happening now unless it's an issue with the hardware.

I called Apple Support about this yesterday. I unplugged our Airport Express that we have extending our network through the house and we still had intermittent drops, so we were able to determine that it's not the cause. After that, I disabled the 5 GHz band to see if that was the cause, but we still had the same # of drops, so we were able to rule that out as an issue, as well.

After ruling out both of those, they had me disable the guest network that I'd originally set up, and after disabling it and rebooting the router, we haven't lost our connection at all. He said he'd seen that cause connectivity issues before, so if you have a guest network set up, try disabling it and see if that helps.

He said that if disabling the guest network didn't resolve the issue, then I should take it to an Apple store or authorized Apple repair place and have them run diagnostics on the hardware as it might be an antenna issue. Usually we get dropped every couple of hours, but since I disabled the guest network yesterday afternoon, I haven't had any problems. I'll report back if this changes.

The same thing happens with my Airport Extreme, as well, and I've only had mine since the beginning of August '10. My husband and I both work from home and it'll drop us at the same time. I'm extending my network with an Airport Express as well, and I never get disconnected when I'm on the network from the Airport Express. Strange, but true. I plan to call Apple early next week about it.

Thanks for the reply! I'd really appreciate it if you would post about how things go when you call Apple. That way if they do something for you I'll know what specifically to say when I call

I definitely will post back after speaking with Apple. :)

do you have Apple Care on a MacBook or iMac? I had a problem with connecting back to the cable modem & it seemed to be the Extreme. Apple mailed me a replacement and then I shipped the other one back. They posted a transaction against my account in case I didn't return the busted Extreme.

I guess it was faulty because they never sent it back. It was a good experience.
