I had the iPad for a month or two and found that I didn't really use it as much as I thought I would.
I'm just too ingrained to surfing the web flipping around different tabs and that workflow is unbearable on this device. The iPad constantly refreshes the page when switching between tabs which makes web browsing a pain.
While I agree that one of the major hurt points on the iPad is the lack of proper multitasking I'm currently experiencing being 'cut off' from mine.
I sold my iPad one about a month before the iPad2 release date (I wanted to go from wifi to 3G so why not get the new version at the same time) but since the release I've not been able to get my hands on one. I keep finding myself reaching for it, or using my phone for tasks while thinking 'this would be better on a tablet'.
So while I completely agree that there as tasks and modes of operation that the iPad is bad at, aparently there are some that it is very good at.

I still have mine, but never use it. barely used it when i got it. its actually pushing me to want a Windows Tablet. the one thing I wished my TouchSmart had was portability. the problem with all the tablets on the market is that they lack a decent video card. I dont really care about 10 hr of battery life: if the device is useless, then no amount of batt life will make it useful. the ipad wouldn't be so useless if OneNote had a proper iPad app, but I'd still miss real web browsing, proper Photoshopping, AutoCad and Real gaming. I'm looking into an HP tm2t from HP right now, but only cause the eee Slate doesnt have descreet Vid and the HP gets 6 hr batt.
I second the request for a proper onenote application. That program is where I live at work now. The scaled up iphone application was just painful.
But looking at the current list of windows tablets I don't think you'll be wanting to try AutoCAD on them now or given Autodesk's penchant for ramping up resource use, ever.
As someone who manages a network that includes a significant number of AutoCAD users I suggest if you want a tablet form factor and access to AutoCAD that offload all the work back to a proper workstation, then connect to it via RDP. Sure graphical operations are slow while using RDP but nothing on the sort of unusable experience you would get trying any current version of CAD with a mobile CPU.

As long as you have a decent GPU, the CPU doesn't matter. I've seen AutoCAD fly on a celeron single core with Quadro 3700 GPU. where it really hurts is plotting (the Vecor to Rastor conversion)
Quite possibly. I'm an Aerospace Engineer, so I mostly deal with parts. a lot of our work is static as well (no moving parts, mostly shellves or instrument panel configurations). We do 3D model some sections, but we aren't manufs, we mostly mod sections of an aircraft.
If you like a tabbed interface, you should purchase the Atomic Web Browser, which has tabs, and doesn't seem to have to re-render pages as much when switching between tabs. It even has a file downloader, which you can use to send files to Dropbox so they can be retrieved on a computer if need be. You can see the interface here atomicwebbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/aa...
Kingkool, download the "Atomic Web" browser from the App Store. It uses tabbed browsing just like regular browsers do with no refresh lag. Safari on the iPad is a sad excuse for a browser.
Oh sorry, I sold my iPad back when the price for the first gen ones was crazy high. Haven't missed it.
