I feel as though this is the bottom of the line Android based phone, would you concur? Is it equal to the Moto Droid?

If I were to say I'll trade you my Eris for your Droid, would that be a fair trade?

I have an Eris and I actually chose it over the Droid because i didn't want the crummy physical keyboard. This phone does just as much as a Droid and has HTC sense which I feel is a plus.

Not really, the Eris is undoubtedly a last gen phone, or I should say low end phone, it doesn't have the processor speed to match the droid. To the average person they might not know but personally That would be a bad trade unless I was the one getting the droid.

If by bottom line you mean the most basic, then I think the LG Ally fits that description as far as Verizon goes. If I owned a Droid (I have an Eris right now) I would not trade it for your Eris - the droid has a keyboard (personal preference), a larger screen with better resolution, will be [eventually] upgraded to Android 2.2, and has a camera with flash I believe.

In general this is a lower end Android phone. I chose it because I don't like the look and feel of the moto droid and I couldn't afford the N1. The fact that the Eris shipped with Android 1.5 is also something that puts it at the back of the line. So far I've managed to root and upgrade my Eris to 2.1 and it is night and day a better than the 1.5. If I can get 2.2(froyo) working I think this handset will hold me over for quite a while

The 2.1 update did not require rooting...if you already had the Eris when the update was released, it was automatically sent to your phone. However, I think that the phone has slowed done since the installation of the upgrade...?

I actually just put Froyo on my Eris and I've noticed that the phone feels much faster. I really like the changes they made in 2.2. Even posted about it on my site with screens of it running 2.2. Love it.

I would consider the Eris a mid-range to upper-mid-range phone. It is not the bottom of the barrel, but it isn't the latest and the greatest.
