I bought one of these second hand at the start of the year. I quite like it, WACOM made the tablets in them too. Its kind of heavy but it is a 2004 tablet.

One annoying thing is it doesn't have an optical drive which wouldn't be so bad if booting from USB wasn't so fickle. It will only boot off a Toshiba USB optical drive, and a small collection of devices from other manufacturers. Couldn't even get it to boot off a USB stick.

I only just recently threw away the optical drive and the amazingly complex dock-stand after I discovered them lounging in a box. The thing I loved about this machine was the high-res screen and the sticker on the bottom that said 'this area can cause burns' - exactly where your wrist and forearm would go.

Shame the Tablet PC experience on XP at that point in time was far from ready.

I got this a hand me down at work and had the same experience as you. I had no way of imaging the machine and even tried using an SD card but that didn't work.

The HDD is easy enough to remove so if you wanted a backup, you could stick it in a desktop with an IDE interface with a 2.5" IDE converter and clone it.
