HP 2133 with Windows 7

I finally got around to wiping my HP 2133 netbook and installing Windows 7 on it. Can't believe how much better it runs than when it had XP Pro, which is what I have had on it since I received it up until now. Runs fanstastic with the new OS. I had to update the touchpad driver (or rather downgrade it to the Vista version), but all the other hardware worked just fine with no tweaking.

Windows 7 is an excellent operating system as far as I can tell. It's like Vista without all the annoyances. I had sent the mininote back to HP because the OS kept freezing and had tried all fixes suggested by various support forums. HP replace the motherboard and did a fresh install of the XP Pro OS, and yet the freezing continued. No mouse, no keyboard, no nothing. Couldn't even shut down with Ctrl-Alt-Del. I didn't know if it was a hardware issue or a software issue, driver, etc. Very frustrating. So eventually I just quit using the machine.

Now with Windows 7 no freezing up. Works like a dream! I actually do like Vista because all my computers with the exception of the netbook have lots of powerful hardware to handle it. But Win 7 seems able to run on just about any config. Bravo, Microsoft for getting this one right! I'm very excited about finally having a netbook that just works, and that I can depend on.

Anyone put Windows 7 on their mini-note?

I also put 7 on it, and together with an SSD drive I installed at the same time it works great.

Except for the freezes. I have the same problem you are describing, but I have them regardless of what OS I've been using. It seems to be coupled to the wireless card, since the freezes only occur when connected wirelessly, never otherwise. They are the sole disappointment to this otherwise great computer.

Hmm, well perhaps I haven't used mine enough since the transition to Win 7 to experience the freezes again. I guess it wouldn't be the first time I thought the problem had been solved only to have it turn out that it wasn't.

I almost forgot my other frustration with it - could never get the express card slot to work with my ATT broadband card. Searched the web and found out I wasn't the only one. No solution to that either. Ticked me off because that and the keyboard were one of the main reasons I choose the HP as my netbook. Long hours with both HP and ATT tech support on the phone solved nothing. Finally, ATT agreed to swap me out to a usb connect device so I had forgotten about that issue.

If it is the wireless that will be a fatal flaw for me since I use it mostly as a "net" book. Ah, the perils of being an early adopter. Nevertheless I will keep my fingers crossed that it finally behaves now that I have put Win 7 on it.

Hey,
looks like i do have the same problem with freezes.
but it strarted most recently . thought I coul fix it by clean reeinstall win XP. maybe not..
I cannot agree with the wifi adapter cousing the probmlem I thing i got freezes with it switched of, as well.
I will keep an eye on that.
I even got a freeze using a knoppix live cd !!

express card slot:
my slot works fine, using a UMTS card for internet access. and every other device I tryed. But: since I got a MOGO bluetooth mouse, which is build to be charged in the express card slot I realysed that the power supply by the slot is not enough for charging the mouse. the HP support confirmes everything is ok with the slot itself. so i keep charging it in my girlfriends laptop...
no way to fix that, as I think
btw, it does charge in the Hp mini 2140, bad luck ...

I love my hp 2133, have not had any freezing probs, but unlike the other posters, I am using Vista Business os. Nobody mentioned which model of 2133 they are using. Mine is with 1.6 via processor , 2gb/160g wiyh wifi and bluetooth. No real probs yet. I love this machine!

I just loaded Windows 7 on my Mini 2133. I have not been able to find a video driver. the default with W7 is only 640x480.. not good. I tried the Vista video driver and it did not help. I have not gotten around to the other devices. Any idea where to get the W7 video driver? HP does not seem to have it. The source for any other drivers I may need too.
