How to add iRobot Roomba Discovery?

For some time now, I wanted to add my iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner (Discovery model).
iRobot as a company is in the gdgt database. However, there is no appropriate category for this device.

What to do?

Hold off on adding it for now. This is a gadget category we'd like to add to the site in the future!

I hear you. We've been hard at work on many new site features that will be more valuable and engaging to gdgt users than simply adding new categories.

That said, we'll eventually get around to adding this category to gdgt.

OK, it's 18 months later. Roomba and iRobot in general are some of the most life/tech/geeky gadgets around. When will we see this?

Sometime down the road. We don't have a time frame for new gadget categories right now.

How about having a robot category? It's generic enough, and it's the sort of thing that should be emerging in the next half decade. GDGT would be a great place to talk about them. Even cute little vaccumy ones.

How far into the future?

We have smart scales and fitness trackers... but still no robotic vacuums. In 2011 I thought maybe there was something about devices having to be connected, a la the types of devices I mentioned above. But then there are a ton of cameras on the site that are half as smart as a Roomba, so I don't know. I do know that iRobot's got a lot of cool gadgets out there, some of which are featured on wwww.thewirecutter.com, which is, with regard to product recommendations, a solid companion to GDGT.

On the more crass side, allowing the device to be featured and reviewed might lead to them wanting to advertise on this site to a targeted audience which clearly cares about such products.

In the end, I just want my beloved vacuum cleaner on my GDGT profile. The Aria shows that we're already getting gadgety about the home.
