How do you add another configuration for an existing product...
I have found that the Apple Store is carying a 3rd configuration for the 13-inch MBP with Retina. (I bought one and am typing on it.)
This isn't a custom order, they seem to carry this configuration at all of the Apple Stores, but don't have it separate on the website... which is a reason why I'd think you'd want to add it - let people know it is available if they go into a store and ask...
How do you add additional configurations like this to an existing product - I'd think it should be easy but I couldn't see how.

The way we put configurations on the site is based around the order numbers that Apple uses with their online store and other retailers. Currently on Apple's website they have two order numbers for the 13-inch retina: MD212LL/A for 128GB and MD213LL/A for 256GB. If you are to go look at place like Best Buy they will only have those order numbers listed on for purchase: www.bestbuy.com/site/Laptop-Computers/MacBooks/pcm... If there is an additional order number being used they haven't updated their online store to reflect it yet.
Google doesn't seem to agree that this actually exists ;)

I think Frank has is right. I only see 2 configurations on the online store and on Amazon/Best Buy

Apple's retail stores carry this addition 3rd configuration, even though they don't specifically advertise it. They seem to have this "Good, Better, Best" setup across multiple products (in store they call it the ultimate configuration or something like that) but don't offer the high end config to their partners.
On the web store you could get this doing a custom order. It is a standard config though, the've gone through the effort to add it to their iPad based product sheets.

Yes, that would be a custom build. As I've stated previously, we currently only put the base model configurations for each order number that Apple has. If you look at other categories on the site that offer custom orders we also do the same for those categories and companies.
Respectfully, I disagree. If every brick and mortar Apple Store carries it - how is it "custom."
And more than that, right now people have no where to go to find out that Apple Stores carry this product. Apple doesn't currently provide this info.
I would like to know this sort of information.
