How do I know which generation?

I have a Drobo, its pretty great, but I'm not sure which generation I have, any easy way to tell?

Easy, you have firewire on your Drobo so you have a second gen.

Sure - They're easily distinguishable by looking at the available ports on drobo: 1gen drobo's only had USB support, 2gen drobo's support both FireWire and USB. Hope that helps.

  • The Drobo is a piece of junk. Sounds like a great idea, but even over FW800 the transfer speeds are sub par. The worst thing though is how unreliable it is.

  • very happy with it so far. bought used from a guy on ebay. it's 1-2 years old and has 4 1TB drives, each maybe 2 years old.
