How did you get your new iPad?

While some people camped out at Apple stores, others apparently sauntered into Best Buy or Walmart and picked up a new iPad without having to line up and wait. How did you get your new iPad? What were the lines like in your area?

I bought mine the civilized way: by immediately rushing to the Apple site after the keynote speech, refreshing the page hundreds of times till I finally got through, and cursing at the screen whenever their e-commerce server failed. But at least I was sitting, and dry!

...did you ignore all other responsibilities until you got that confrimation number then obsessively check UPS once it shipped to check on progress ready to call them if it stayed in one place too long then debate with your other pre-order friends why theirs was still in Alaska, but yours was already in Kentucky then go into the office a little early in case everyone else in the building got sick and you were going to be the only one to meet the UPS guy?

yeah, me neither.

mine was on my chair when I got to the office ;)

I did obsessively check the tracking page, but for the most part on launch day I worked from my comfortable home office until the FedEx guy arrived in an unmarked white van that I suspect was being used uniquely to deliver iPads. When I bought the iPad 2 it was shipped from China to Tennessee to California. This time around the origin was Ontario, California. Weird.

I preordered mine after the Cook-note. All it took was checking the Apple Store every few minutes. I'd rather wait a few hours within the comfort of my own home for FedEx to deliver it than wait several hours in line in the dreary weather just for the possible opportunity to buy one.

I did the exact same thing Mike did. Spam refreshed the Apple Store immediately following the Keynote. It was absolutely buggy and crashy, but I managed to get in line early enough to receive them today.

I pre ordered on the first day and got it March 16 evening. I saw big line at 5th ave store. The line starts with about 30 people on March 15 3pm.

I ordered mine the morning after the announcement after mulling it over overnight. I ordered it on the Apple store app on my iPhone4. I don't know if it's cause I ordered it there instead of the website, or if it's cause I ordered it the next day but I didn't have any trouble getting my order placed. I did do the same thing of obsessively checking my tracking info about 5 times a day though.

I pre signed for FedEx to leave at my door. They didn't leave it and it went back to the local shipping center. I went Saturday morning to pick it up from said facility and was told they made an exception for redelivery on Saturday, not Monday like the door tag said and that it was already out for delivery. It actually made it to my house before I got home. Thankfully someone was there to sign for it.

Woke up at 5am, and stood in line at Best Buy in Cincinnati. Was first in line of about 40 other people. I bought a Black Wifi 32GB new iPad.

Never lined up before and had to buy in store because we wanted to take advantage of the 18months same as cash best buy has because we bought an Apple TV and Bose SoundLink as well

Ordered mine online via Apple and then paced the floor until it arrived via FedEx on March 16th about noon-ish.

I went to the Apple store here in Tampa at 23:30 the night before, I was third in line. I met a few really cool apple fans and iPhone developers (the main reason why I wait in line). The line only got up to 60 people by the time the store opened at 8 am (a lot less people than the iPad 2 launch at the same location). Overall it was a fun experience and I am loving the retina display!

I was able to walk into my local Apple Store, Apple Store Stonebriar, Frisco, TX, on Saturday and picked it up. Not too hard considering that they got 1300 iPads in their first shipment and only sold about 500 on launch day.

This would be the first time I've ever preordered an Apple product but I put in my order a couple hours after the keynote and it showed up on my doorstep come launch day.

I won it because I participated in a promotion without knowing it.
