I am considering buying a slingbox pro so I can use with my android phone. How many devices (dvr, set top boxes, dvd) is the PRO version capable of hooking up to?

MrSling

I'm assuming you mean a PRO-HD. You can hook up one component/digital device, one SD/composite device and one coax device into a PRO-HD. The PRO-HD also comes with a TV tuner so you can watch your local analog/digital broadcast or basic cable without changing channels on your home TV.

Mr Sling when will the Slingplayer Application for Windows and the Mac be able to access the DISH Network 922? Old versions of the Slingplayer work fine with the 922, however access to the 922 has been blocked in newer versions of the Slingplayer app.

I want my kids to be able to use my Slingbox built into the 922 but I refuse to give them my username and password to my DISH Network account to do so, therefore watching via the website is a no go for me.

It's my Slingbox please let me access it just like every other Slingbox being sold. The 922 Slingbox a shell of what a real slingbox is in this case.

It is a DISH requirement that the 922 is accessed only by the Web Based SlingPlayer.

Then why call it a Slingbox since obviously its not one?

so you mean to tell me that after I bought my slingbox less than three years ago, That I have to pay more money to upgrade to a new box. I dont mind paying the 30 dollars for my mobile application...However I only get 50.00 off a new one...thats after I spent 150.00 for the one i got from Best Buy. Will they ever give a better upgrade deal for your loyal customers? I have a android phone by the way. I currently have the Slingbox av box (the original solo) I would love to a upgrade to a new box...but , cant slingbox give a better upgrade deal than just $50.00. Or is there a way for the android versions of the software to work with my older box. Other than that ...I love my slingbox and will continue to be a loyal customer. :-)

thank you.

I hear you and I understand. We are always re-evaluating our promotions and we will take your input into our planning. One of the problems with continually advancing technology is the ability to be backward compatible. We always try to be as backward compatible as possible in our new products but as in any new and rapidly advancing tech area such as mobile TV it is sometimes just not possible.

Mr Sling, when will you add slingPlayer for iPhone in non-US appStores (AppStore - Slovenia) ?

MrSling

SlingPlayer for iPhone is available in any country where we sell Slingboxes. Another avenue you can try is to make an account in a country near Slovenia that does have the Apple app store and purchase there.

I've ordered slingbox from UK. Unfortunately I can't create account in other country with Slovenian mastercard.

Slovenia does have app store. I think that you should sell slingplayer in all appstores. A lot of people order slingbox from international sellers (ebay...)

Two questions:

When are we going to see a SingPlayer for OS X that supports HD?

Why do the current versions of SlingPlayer for Windows and OS X not allow you to connect to the DishNetwork 922? Older versions work fine with it (at least in SD quality) and even include the remote for it. So it's rather odd that it refuses to work with it. On top of this the mobile SlingPlayers work with it fine. So it's obvious that you can do this but have chosen to disable the software for some reason. Rather disappointing when a product is advertised as having a built in SlingBox when it doesn't behave like a SlingBox.

You can get a really great Mac HD experience by using the Web Based SlingPlayer (WBSP). If you haven't tried it you really should. Just go to www.slingbox.com and click on "Watch". Then enter your account info and you'll log right into your Slingbox. We will be placing a lot of focus on the WBSP. Please give it a try. The WBSP should work nicely with the 922.

This is incorrect information. You can not watch the DISH Network 922 from www.slingbox.com... you can only watch via DISHNETWORK.COM and must be logged in via your DISH Network account.

I wish we could use the built in Slingbox in our 922 like a regular Slingbox. I want to use my Slingplayer application, not be forced to login to DISH Network's website each time.

Because of this limitation the 922 is a major disapointment for us Sling fans.

You are correct about needing to use dishnetwork.com. I apologize for that error.

No offense but the web based players stink. Here are my reasons for feeling this way:

a) You can't arbitrarily adjust the size of the picture.
b) If you put the screen into full screen mode and then click out of the app it removes the size. Which stinks for those of us with multiple monitors.
c) No always on top mode.
d) No way to configure transmission rates.

and a variety of other reasons...

Finally, no you can't watch a 922 from slingbox.com:
Your DISH Network ViP®922 SlingLoaded™ DVR can only be watched on DISH Remote Access and your compatible mobile device. Please log-in to www.dishnetwork.com and click on DISH Remote Access link.

DISH Networks' site requires that you log into the same account you use to make changes to your account, etc... Which makes giving that info out to family members (e.g. kids) untenable.

You are correct about needed to use dishnetwork.com. Sorry for that error.

Your reasons for not wanting to use the WBSP are valid and I can tell you we know about those issues. We're working now to correct most all of your points. This is ongoing development and I think you're going to like the results.

Thanks Mr. Sling... I sure hope your correct. I am an avid Slingbox owner, I have 5 of them myself plus a 922 (and a Slingcatcher... and a few Slinglinks...) I want to preach my love of this technology and doing it for the 922 has been so hard because of how cripled the sling technology is in the 922.

Best,

Scott

MrSling Says: "You can only transfer SPM registrations to/from versions of SPM purchased from the same store."

I bought my SPM from the The Sling Media Store for my WinMobile HTC Diamond. Now that I've upgraded to HTC EVO, I want to transfer my key. However, SPM for Android is not available via Sling Media Store - it's only available on Android market. So now I'm forced to re-purchase SPM because Sling is not offering the Android app through it's own Sling Media Store. Have I followed this path correctly?

MrSling

Yes, that's correct. We must use the Android Market to get the product out there right now.

Fair enough. SPM is easily worth the $29.99. It looks great on the EVO and I'm very thankful that it's available. Best Regards.

Any word on the release of the Sling Receiver 300?
0 like dislike
MrSling

The Sling Receiver 300 is one of our OEM products and, for now, will not be sold in retail. The first television provider to carry the product will be DISH network. If you're a DISH subscriber you should check in with DISH to see when they will make the product available. If not, try looking into DISH's offerings.

Can you enable JIT support in the Android player? The player wont work on my favorite ROM. Having to move to another.

Hi, Sorry but we only support the official Android ROMs.

Froyo (Android 2.2) is an official build and has JIT built into it. So can we not use the Slingplayer on anything above 2.1?

MrSling

I believe Froyo is still a development build.

And finally, with Sling's transition of new products to the OEM space, will we continue to see new products being released for the consumer?
0 like dislike
MrSling

Hi, I'll answer this one first. I can tell you emphatically that Sling has no intention of taking its focus off the consumer retail market. We love end-users and get stoked when we hear how our products are being used.

That said, any business must continue to grow and the the television provider market is huge and ready for value-added services like placeshifting. We simply can't ignore that opportunity.

From your support pages, it indicates that the slingprojector software is only compatible with XP and Vista. Can it be installed and run properly in Windows 7? If not, will there be an update to support this new OS?
0 like dislike
MrSling

We have not made any code additions to SlingProjector for Windows 7 compatibility. If you try it may or may not install and run. However, we are definitely not supporting SlingProjector on Windows 7.

Any idea if the SOLO will support the new h.264 streaming firmware I have heard Sling is moving to, or will this be a Sling PRO-HD only Firmware update? Will this be part of the Slingplayer for iPad release?
0 like dislike
MrSling

Good question. We generally don't discuss product protocols before they ship. However, I can say that we are constantly evolving our code base to be compatible with the latest and most advanced technologies. So if we develop a SlingPlayer app that supports a new protocol we will make sure the Slingbox can deliver with that protocol.

Apple has made some decisions about how video is received by the iPad. We'll be completely compatible with those requirements.

What happened to the Slingcatcher, been trying to get one but it has disappeared from retail stores, has it been discontinued?

We have stopped making and selling the SlingCatcher.

Any new product that would do the slingcatcher function? How can I watch my slingbox on another tv without using my computer? Setting it up permanently on the tv through hdmi like the slingcatcher did?
0 like dislike
MrSling

We believe that in the near future TVs will be equipped with any combination of Ethernet, Flash and other technologies. In other words, you may not need a hardware device in addition to the TV in order to receive video over a net connection.

Well, its a shame that nowI have to spend thousands of dollars buying an ethernet equipped Tv to achive what the $199.00 did perfectly!

If you have the SlingPlayer for Blackberry, but moved to an Android device, can you carry that license key over to the Android app. Or do you have to spend $29.99 again for the Android one?
0 like dislike
MrSling

Sorry but you can only transfer SPM registrations to/from versions of SPM purchased from the same store. So, if you bought SPM from iTunes you can only transfer that registration within that store ecosystem. The registrations are managed by the individual markets and not by Sling Media. So if you purchased your SPM from Sling you could transfer it to any other SPM you buy from Sling.

You have a great product. I use it all the time when at work via web, travelling on the laptop via Slingplayer, but why do you continue to release Slingplayer mobile for all of these new to market phones and continue to ignore the Blackberry Storm? Is this even being worked on????
0 like dislike
MrSling

Great to hear that you're getting good use out of your Slingbox.

We haven't forgotten the Storm. We continue to investigate developing for the Storm. There are some issues with RIM and the protocols they support on that particular phone which is slowing us down.
