Discussion about
Hi, This is MrSling at SlingMedia. I'll be here taking questions and providing info on Sling products June 22 & 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT.
Come join the conversation and give us your comments. Looking forward to seeing you.
This kind of reminds me of the days when we were waiting for Sling for iPhone. Very little communication from Sling, which is very frustrating to your most loyal customers and early adopters. I hope this time you handle the media side of this better. Glad to know you are working on it. Can you at least say if you are targeting a 2010 release?
I have a coupon code for SlingPlayer Mobile, is there any way to redeem it for SlingPlayer Mobile for Android?
Hi, I would like to give you a little more info about why your code is not transferable to SlingPlayer Mobile (SPM) for Android. You can only transfer SPM registrations to/from versions of SPM purchased from the same store. So, if you bought SPM from iTunes you can only transfer that registration within that ecosystem. Same goes for the Android Market. Those registrations are managed by the individual markets and not by Sling Media. I hope that helps.
You have a great product. I use it all the time when at work via web, travelling on the laptop via Slingplayer, but why do you continue to release Slingplayer mobile for all of these new to market phones and continue to ignore the Blackberry Storm? Is this even being worked on????
Thanks for the reply. Please let your developers know I have my $30 set aside for them in anticipation of the completion!
Sorry but you can only transfer SPM registrations to/from versions of SPM purchased from the same store. So, if you bought SPM from iTunes you can only transfer that registration within that store ecosystem. The registrations are managed by the individual markets and not by Sling Media. So if you purchased your SPM from Sling you could transfer it to any other SPM you buy from Sling.
Good question. We generally don't discuss product protocols before they ship. However, I can say that we are constantly evolving our code base to be compatible with the latest and most advanced technologies. So if we develop a SlingPlayer app that supports a new protocol we will make sure the Slingbox can deliver with that protocol.
Apple has made some decisions about how video is received by the iPad. We'll be completely compatible with those requirements.

Hi, I'll answer this one first. I can tell you emphatically that Sling has no intention of taking its focus off the consumer retail market. We love end-users and get stoked when we hear how our products are being used.
That said, any business must continue to grow and the the television provider market is huge and ready for value-added services like placeshifting. We simply can't ignore that opportunity.

The Sling Receiver 300 is one of our OEM products and, for now, will not be sold in retail. The first television provider to carry the product will be DISH network. If you're a DISH subscriber you should check in with DISH to see when they will make the product available. If not, try looking into DISH's offerings.
MrSling Says: "You can only transfer SPM registrations to/from versions of SPM purchased from the same store."
I bought my SPM from the The Sling Media Store for my WinMobile HTC Diamond. Now that I've upgraded to HTC EVO, I want to transfer my key. However, SPM for Android is not available via Sling Media Store - it's only available on Android market. So now I'm forced to re-purchase SPM because Sling is not offering the Android app through it's own Sling Media Store. Have I followed this path correctly?

Two questions:
When are we going to see a SingPlayer for OS X that supports HD?
Why do the current versions of SlingPlayer for Windows and OS X not allow you to connect to the DishNetwork 922? Older versions work fine with it (at least in SD quality) and even include the remote for it. So it's rather odd that it refuses to work with it. On top of this the mobile SlingPlayers work with it fine. So it's obvious that you can do this but have chosen to disable the software for some reason. Rather disappointing when a product is advertised as having a built in SlingBox when it doesn't behave like a SlingBox.

You can get a really great Mac HD experience by using the Web Based SlingPlayer (WBSP). If you haven't tried it you really should. Just go to www.slingbox.com and click on "Watch". Then enter your account info and you'll log right into your Slingbox. We will be placing a lot of focus on the WBSP. Please give it a try. The WBSP should work nicely with the 922.
This is incorrect information. You can not watch the DISH Network 922 from www.slingbox.com... you can only watch via DISHNETWORK.COM and must be logged in via your DISH Network account.
I wish we could use the built in Slingbox in our 922 like a regular Slingbox. I want to use my Slingplayer application, not be forced to login to DISH Network's website each time.
Because of this limitation the 922 is a major disapointment for us Sling fans.

You are correct about needing to use dishnetwork.com. I apologize for that error.
No offense but the web based players stink. Here are my reasons for feeling this way:
a) You can't arbitrarily adjust the size of the picture.
b) If you put the screen into full screen mode and then click out of the app it removes the size. Which stinks for those of us with multiple monitors.
c) No always on top mode.
d) No way to configure transmission rates.
and a variety of other reasons...
Finally, no you can't watch a 922 from slingbox.com:
Your DISH Network ViP®922 SlingLoaded™ DVR can only be watched on DISH Remote Access and your compatible mobile device. Please log-in to www.dishnetwork.com and click on DISH Remote Access link.
DISH Networks' site requires that you log into the same account you use to make changes to your account, etc... Which makes giving that info out to family members (e.g. kids) untenable.

Your reasons for not wanting to use the WBSP are valid and I can tell you we know about those issues. We're working now to correct most all of your points. This is ongoing development and I think you're going to like the results.

Thanks Mr. Sling... I sure hope your correct. I am an avid Slingbox owner, I have 5 of them myself plus a 922 (and a Slingcatcher... and a few Slinglinks...) I want to preach my love of this technology and doing it for the 922 has been so hard because of how cripled the sling technology is in the 922.
