Discussion about
none at all. You can ignore WinMo if you want but it does work very well on the device. Marketplace apps, including games like Galaga work well. Possibly the best WinMo device ever built.
as a UW student in the area, I'm hurt that you've not offered to let me play with it. they keyboard on my xperia is starting to die, i've been looking for a worthy replacement.
This model is Euro only. Speed on EDGE here in Seattle is amazing though. I can use the Sling client with no problems, something I can't do in NY. If you need 3G, wait for US version.
in general no lag at all. Every so often i do get a small hiccup or slowdown but that happens sometimes in iPhone as well
onscreen keyboard is excellent. partially because there's a so much surface area on the screen. Can use easily in portrait mode
Are there any plans to have Google/GPS functionality like on Android 2.0?
yep. Come with co-pilot installed but you need to buy the full app to use HTC plans an in car dock to be used with it.
Very curious about how the HD2 "feels". Obviously, its big, err...HUGE! Does it feel large? Does it still feel like a phone or is it more about compromise?
it looks bigger than it feels. Partially because it's all screen, no bezel and very thin, it's very friendly to hold. However, if you have small hands, might be an issue
haven't tried Voice Command nor do I use a Bluetooth headset. Let me test and get back to you
it's not an Apple's to apples comparison. I can say that the HD2 matches the fluidity of the iPhone experience. In some ways it's worse than the iPhone but in other ways it's better. I personally love the glanceablity of the HTC Sense UI to quickly scan email, stocks, weather and Twitter.
im thinking of upgrading to this from my n95 8gb will it be compatible with window7 mobile?
AS MSFT hasn't talke about Win Mo 7 or whatever comes next, no way to know. But in general, buy a phone for what it can do for you today, not whether you can upgrade it tomorrow or you'll wait forever the next big thing
I don't find it too big but understand if you have small hands, this isn't the best device for you
Skyfire worked well for me on the device. I still prefer Opera or IE though.
i've being playing with one of these too, albeit only briefly. It's an ugly girl or boy wearing stunning make-up. And as such it's very attractive. But has much as HTC has skillfuly applies their Max Factor magic their are going to be times when you are exposed to the horror that is Windows Mobile (sorry, Windows Phone) lurking underneath all that slap. If the HD2 were running Android I would have already run away with it forever to another country with no phone-stealing extradition treaty.
You can buy one on expansys-usa.com/ but it is the Euro/World model. As Gartenburg has stated, it won't work on AT&T's 3G frequencies but will do the 2.5G and that can be fast. If you absolutely need 3G, don't get it. I myself am looking at one a friend owns next week for a few hours but I feel I will buy one based on the 5 minutes I got with it this week.
Could someone time a USB data transfer to the SD card? Say ~100MB?
Hi,
I've had my HD2 for 6 days now and am very happy so far. The only part of WinMo 6.5 that you ever see is the Program screen/application launcher (i.e. the thing that once-upon-a-time was going to have the honeycomb interface) and I find it perfectly fine to use - nice big buttons.
The marketplace app (is that considered part of the OS??) is functional without being spectacular.
The rest of the time its all HTC Sense UI which is simple gorgeous. In fact nearly all of the good things about this phone can be attributed to the phone manufacturer which (IMO) is a good thing. I feel there's too much hot air that gets blown about whilst talking about OSs.
The hardware is what really "makes" this phone though. The massive screen is the killer part and I've seen a few iPhone owners look a bit miffed when I lay it alongside their treasured devices. HD2 is definitely a head turner.
Of course the biggest thing that its missing in comparison to the iPhone is the fact that the iPhone is also an iPod, so no decent media management here and absolutely zero podcasting support (which, for me, is a big thing). Of course I knew all this when I bought it so I shouldn't really complain.
I've been tweeting my experiences (both good and bad) using hash tag #hd2experience if anyone is interested.
Hope that helps!

The device comes with two Twitter apps correct? How do they each perform? Can you upload pictures and videos (to Twitpic or Twitvid, respectively. Or other hosts?)? Do they support lists and the new retweet features recently added to Twitter?
Thanks - appreciate your time.
