You can easily replace the icons at the bottom of the screen. Open the app-drawer, press MENU, select Edit. You can now drag the desired icons to the "dock". But I agree. Widget-browsing is quite annoying...
As a long standing Cyanogenmod user ADW was the natural choice, and as I chose to support the developer by buying the EX version, that was what I installed.
I love the extra functionality liked the hidden app tray, swipe down for notifications (great for larger screens) and optional app draw settings.
But strangely, more than anything, the reason why I installed a different launcher is to get rid of those annoying permanent home screen icons and 'organic' feeling.
Now my home screen snaps to attention in tune with the power of the phone, I feel people often confuse the this intentional coding for lag.
