Have you given Amazon Android app store a try?
I don't have an Android phone but would love to hear your thoughts on the store and how it compares to Google's Android market.
I only played around with it for a 10 minutes or so, but here are my first impressions:
Good:
- You can filter apps based on price range
- I haven't come across a lot of spammy looking apps, but there's still a lot of low quality apps in there
- It has built-in recommendations
- It has the Amazon "people who viewed this app also viewed this other app" which is nice sometimes.
- They have a free app of the day. This will keep me using it!
Bad:
- It's a pretty "shady" way to install it. You have to enable unknown sources in the settings to install the Amazon Appstore. I can see non-techy users being put off from having to do that.
- Since this is new, there's very few reviews on apps and when sorting by "Top" apps, they just don't seem right. Ex: Twitter or Facebook doesn't show up as a top social networking app
- It doesn't sync with the Google Marketplace. I installed the Angry Birds Rio and it doesn't show up in my list of apps in the Marketplace. This is going to be a problem if you want to sync your apps to another device. The Amazon Appstore also doesn't know what you already have on your phone.

Truth is most people have no idea what rooting even is, let alone ROMs and kernels. This is exactly the reason why as much as I want an Atrix, I'm not getting anything on AT&T. I know I can figure out how to hack the phone the make it how I want, but that doesn't make it right.
It seems to do the job. I like the filtering options and if Amazon is willing to undercut some of the prices on the Android Market I think it will have some success. Also the Free app a day thing is kinda cool as long as they are quality apps. Oh yeah and AT&T users should check out this article from Android Central that shows you how to sideload apps on your AT&T phones so you can install the new Amazon app www.androidcentral.com/sideload-android-apps-all-y...
A question guys. Does it work for Indian users? It got installed just fine. I turned on one click payment feature as required by Amazon. But I cannot download and install Angry Birds Rio. It says some issue with payment. I assume that the app store is designed to work in a limit number of countries. But it installed just fine!
