Had mine for about 14 months now. Certainly tempted by the Thunderbolt and other 4G/LTE phones, but willing to hold out until early next year.
I did root my phone for the WiFi hotspot, and briefly ran CyanogenMod 7 RC2, but am back to stock 2.2. Overall, very happy with the device, though I rarely use the physical keyboard and dislike it when I do. I've handled the Droid 2 physical keyboard and like it much better. Still, it's my second smartphone (after the Palm Centro) and I'm a fan. It does almost everything my iPod Touch does, and if it had a better battery life I'd probably leave the Touch at home more often. As it is, I have docks at work and at home, and a USB charge cable in the car, and I never make it through the day without having to give it at least some extra charging time.
The keyboard was a must for me, coming up from the Env2, but I found I don't really use it at all. I've discovered that I like the bigger screen size of the Droid X, however, the lack of a Cyanogen ROM for it is leading me towards the Galaxy S(Fascinate). But I have more than a few months to decide yet.
CM7 is in development for the Thunderbolt..hell, there's already a Pre-alpha release. Go to the XDA forums and check it out if you're really interested.
