Guide: Use your DirecTV remote with your Xbox

This is a little trick that can save you some money if you have DirecTV and you want a remote for your Xbox. The DirecTV remote can be programmed to work with your Xbox 360, saving you from having to get a special remote for your console.

These instructions double as how to program your DirecTV remote in general, so if you already know how to do that you can scroll down for the code.

1. Switch your remote to AV1 or AV2 (whichever you want to use).

2. Press and hold the Mute and Select keys at the same time until the green light on the remote flashes twice. Release the keys.

3. Using the number keys, enter "21708". The green light should flash twice.

Your remote should now be programmed to work with your Xbox! Try hitting the power button and your Xbox should turn on. Enjoy!

Love this tip, but does anything on the remote map to the guide button? That seems to be all I'm missing for this to be a perfect solution.

Unfortunately it's not a perfect solution. Several buttons from the Xbox don't map out to anything on the remote, so, for example, there's no way to push the Xbox button or anything like that. You can navigate the Xbox's menu's using the arrows and select, you can press "exit" to go back a step, and play/pause/etc all work. So it's not the perfect solution, but for the most part it gets the job done. Best thing you can do is just press buttons and see what happens!

I was so amazed when I found this out. I mainly use it for when I'm watching stuff though. Tired of having to keep on turning on my xbox controller to press pause.
