Great Laptop but whats up with the monster power supply???
I can't believe how big it is. I was shocked when i opened the package. Especially since i have seen the power supply for the briefcase sized HP "laptop" and its 1/4 the size.
It's not *that* big for what it is. And power bricks need to be large as the power draw is heavier than most laptops.
If you want to see something really large, you should see the Alienware monstrosities or indeed Dell's own carbuncle, the XPS M1730. I used to have to walk at an oblique angle with a lean on the very rare occasions that I was carting that machine around for any length of time.

I realize why and am resigned to it it's just I wonder how HP can power a "Laptop" that has a 23" screen with a power supply at least half the size. I also have the HP/Compaq 17" desktop replacement ant it's power supply is considerBly smaller. I can't imagine the Dell uses that much more juice. In any case dose any one have the solid state drive option installed?
I removed the base drives I specced my Covets with and substituted them with dual OCZ Vertex 250Gb's in RAID0 on each machine. The real-life, everyday-noticeable effect on especially (and obviously) disc-bound apps was pretty stunning. It also made hibernation modes, etc in Vista a lot more immediately accessible and usable. I've recently started fitting 'work-drive' RAID0 SSD's to my desktops due to the huge effect on my productivity. It's made such a difference that right now I wouldn't buy a notebook without an SSD. If you want to make your M6400 fly even more, the SSD (particularly in RAID0) is the most effective way to achieve it.
I have the Samsung SSD in my M6400 (along with a 500gb secondary drive). I think I'm going to replace it with the 2nd gen Intel X25-M 80gb, tho. The Samsung just isn't as fast as newer MLC drives, let alone the newer SLCs.
