blocked installation of non-Market apps. It's total nonsense that shows contempt for users (I don't like that Apple does this either) and kind of defeats one of the great things about Android (namely that it's slightly more open than some of the alternatives).
I also can't install Swype on the Atrix 4G, which is a real shame since the preinstalled keyboard is so sucky.
Anyway, going to install the Sonos app on the Nexus S and Galaxy Tab right now.

For sure. An average user would never put this much effort into side loading. But I guess average users probably wouldn't even realize where to look outside of the Android Market app to start with.

Swype is pre-installed on mine, but for some reason, it's not in the list of apps. It showed up under 'Input options' in a pop-up I got when trying to copy & paste (by holding my finger down over some text i had typed) while composing an email. Strangely, I don't get that pop-up when doing the same while writing a text message.
Good to know this exists. Sometimes I feel a bit immune to all of this because while I am on AT&T, my rooted Nexus One is such an amazing experience of open-ness and freedom to do what I want with my hardware I forget that companies like AT&T and some phone manufacturers are making Android less than it was intended.

According to this post on lifehacker: lifehac.kr/eQkHIs, it's possible to sideload by simply removing the SIM card. Haven't tried yet, but seems almost too simple. If that works, I wonder if simply putting the phone into airplane mode will get the job done too.
Hey Peter, according to GigaOM ( gigaom.com/mobile/motorola-atrix-4g-and-laptop-doc... ), Swype is already preinstalled on the Atrix. Did it not come preinstalled on the unit you received?
