Google Voice On Sprint iPhone

Has anyone seen information on if the Google Voice integration Sprint offers will be available on the iPhone 4S?

I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe you'll be able to listen to your voicemails from google voice with visual voicemail, but as far as the rest of Google voice features, you would have to use the Google Voice app for the iPhone, which IMO is not the best effort I've seen from Google.

Agreed with N3SSQwiK. The google voice thing is better on Android phones, I have an supplement cell phone and it is an Android HTC Inspire. It integrates much better with the Android OS. Apple doesn't want any other "copies" of the phone app that is already on the phone. They don't want to have to share the core APIs with Google so they can integrate like the Android phone has. I would say, that the Google Voice service is still available to you as an option, because it is just a forwarding service at its core. As it's days come from Grand Central (which google bought), you can just forward the number to the iPhone and still use the google app that N3SSQwiK mentioned. Still a very viable option!

I currently use GV on my AT&T iPhone 4. I was intrigued by the option Sprint users have to provision their GV number as their mobile number, even on feature phones. I agree that Apple would not want duplicated functionality from an app perspective, but if your GV number was your mobile number, I don't see how they could block that. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

It seems like you are on to something. Did you try calling Sprint and see if any reps know how GV will integrate with iOS?

I looked through the Sprint forums and nothing posted about iPhone yet. I did see a thread that Visual Voicemail does not work on devices that are provisioned to GV. The user has to use the GV portal or call into GV to retrieve messages. Also MMS does not work with integrated GV either - same as traditional GV usage. What I think is of value is not having to use the "other numbers" that get assigned to people who text you as their primary number in order for outgoing calls to show as your GV number. Obviously you can use the GV app to dial out or text, but it is an extra step. Having your GV number as your mobile number gets you close to the integration you have with Android.

For what it's worth, I posted the following question on Quora: "Will native Google Voice integration work with the Sprint iPhone 4 and 4S?"
