I just lost the standard "white" headset that came with my 3G. I think that was the product gods freeing me from the less than ideal out of box headphones ;-)
Considered going to BT headet, but lack of AVRCP support and inability to control audio volume from 3G lead me to wait on that front.
I listen to almost exclusively ALAC music, so audio quality is paramount for me. Hence the product gods making me lose the OEM headset. I take calls on the headset occassionally, but fit and audio quality are my drivers. Would appreciate not sinking hundreds into a headset I might lose, but audio quality to cost balance tilts towards quality.

Good in-ear wired headset for iPhone 3G
There's a version of the Phonak audeo Perfect Fit Earphone with a microphone for around $150. Its sound reproduction is universally acclaimed across the board; I don't think I've read a single review that listed it having any sonic faults. It's supposed to be pretty comfortable to boot.
