To Mike Arrington.
Everybody's giving credit to Apple, but there's no real evidence that they were working on the iPad until they made the announcement in January. Sure, Apple is the second to get a tablet out, but why shouldn't they have been first; all they had to do was port iPhone OS. Their real tablet OS, 4.0, won't come out until fall. Everyone else had to start from scratch.

Giving credit where credit is due for this new form factor...
Mike Arrington really didn't come up with the form factor. Slates have been out for a loong time. Here is just one random example from 2003. www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/gateway_xp_tabl...
Ultimately as technology progresses, this form factor is just becoming easier to do well. Capacitive multitouch really opened the doors for finger friendly input, but aside from that, nothing dramatic has changed in the last 10 years.
