Gimmee a break. Using the multitrack pad on my MacBookAir is a major pain. Why would I want to increase the torture? Gestures?

C'mon - nobody seriously uses these.

I personally love my trackpad. To each, their own, I suppose.

Haha, blanket statements like that don't work most of the time. I think there's a definite place for a large trackpad to be used.

Hell, I definitely won't be playing TF2, CS, or WoW on that thing, but I'll use it for most purposes. For anything gaming or high-precision, I'll use my Razer Mamba.

I think you're crazy. I love the gestures (and I "seriously" use them). I just ordered one of these bad boys.

Your comment makes me wonder if most people use gestures or not though.

Well - perhaps if you only used Apple input devices, then it might seem like or even be a great idea. But mice offer better desktop response and many third-party options offer more immediate access to features you might be tying your fingers in knots for.

I guess I just don't see this coexisting peacefully with the fact that most people's desktop screens (since obviously you likely aren't going to use this with an Apple notebook) are getting bigger, in addition to the above.

I'll buy it anyway most likely, but like many Apple input devices it'll probably lay collecting dust after the novelty wears off, and I go back to stuff that's actually worth a damn.

I am a huge fan of the ball on the wireless Mighty Mouse though - something that many people really hate - because it makes browsing Excel sheets a pleasure. But that's just me, I guess, as well...

Interesting comments. I would think that if you appreciate the ball (since you do a lot of lateral scrolling in excel), then you would appreciate the magic trackpad for the same reason.

I definitely see the appeal of a mouse over this device, but I already have plenty of mouses and this seems novel enough (the ball always really bothered me).

I use gestures. I'm gesturing at you right now. ;)

I am very curious to see how functional it will be with a stylus, though? Anyone have an iPad stylus and a Trackpad to try this out?

My Pogo Sketch works with my MBP trackpad, but not very well. I think the Pogo people (tenonedesign.com/), were working on some things to make it better. There is a video out there (www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgTcyjzXfTg) that shows the possibilities of it working better.

Get thee behind me, thou non-Applewashed!

:p

What with the keyboards and now this, I'm wondering what Apple has against our finger joints.

Seriously, Apple took the absolute worst thing about laptops and made it into its own device. Genius.

Quite the contrary. I think Apple's trackpads are easily the best in the industry. The gesture support is top notch. And for people with RSI problems, trackballs and trackpads are perfect for them.
