Getting the F310 to work with OSX Lion on a Mac

I'm trying to make sure I can't get my F310 gamepad to work on my Macbook Pro that's running OSX Lion before I go searching for another controller to do the job: I connected it to USB with the gamepad switched to "D" on the back but it's not responding at all. I plugged it into a USB drive that I know is working, I held down the logitech button but it won't work. Any help is appreciated.
