Funny coincidence that my wife's MacBook Pro died exactly a week before the new ones were announced, right?

I guess you're just in time to get her a new one. Perhaps it would make a nice mother's day gift?

Gadget death is a blessing and a curse. Getting new stuff = Good. Spending a lot of money = Bad.

Hrrmm, sounds an awful like the iPod controversy in 2003, where a lot of iPods ran out of battery days after the warranty expired. Buuut, I doubt Apple is still up to their dirty deeds anymore, now with the huge amounts of press pressured on them constantly, good or not, it's too much attention to do silly stuff like that.

How old was the machine and how did it die?

How sure are you on the timeline? She didn't just drop it "accidentally" when she heard the new announcement?

I think it's perfect grounds for you to buy a new one and pass yours on to her to use.

? I thought MBPs were immortal. $ clearly grows on trees for you guys if the loss of a 4-figure machine is something to laugh about. Must be nice, I'm envious haha

I dropped and broke the hinge on my original black Macbook (2006!) when I got out of bed the morning of the Macbook Pro updates. Not funny because I love this machine and it still performs superbly but oh well. Someone is telling me to move on.

I think "planned obsolescence" has been around since the '20s.

Coincidence?
I think a full public enquiry as to exactly why and how said MacBook Pro death occurred will be launched.

Apple sends out that remote deactivate command when new models come out :)
