Firmware 20

One thing that bugged me with my N97 would be that its Codec support is shall we say....lacking?

The N97 or at least my version does not support .m4v and .avi vids which is a real bummer. With the new firmware coming in do you guys think there will actually be more codecs included?

I have my doubts that it will support any more codecs, it is still just Real Player. However, Core Player 2.0 will support S60v5 and should be out in a few weeks, supports many more codecs, loved it on WinMo.

betalabs.nokia.com/betas/view/internet-tablet-vide...

You can use this Nokia software to convert videos to playable formats for Nokia devices, although this was designed for the Internet Tablet line (N810, N900, etc). It works fine for S60 phones too.

Hmm, its a shelved product but will try it anyway. It sure is better than waiting for the ovi store to convert the file while transffering.

Yeah. They developed it to the point where it's pretty great for what it's intended to do. I'd say it's worthy of removing the "beta" tag, but I guess they don't wish to devote any resources to providing support for it. Personally, I've had no problems with the program whatsoever. Highly recommend it.

Anybody got an idea when is the new firmware coming to the N97?

I am really anxious for it.

I was told it should be available in the next 2 weeks. I was hoping to see it this week but that didn't happen.

Well Personally I want them to take their time. When I first got my my N97, it had more bugs than a South American jungle.

According to N97fanatics.com, it will be available in "the coming weeks". I guess that could mean any time through November.

Man, what I wouldn't pay for an AVC/H.264 codec, but I'm near certain it won't include any new codecs.

Seems like Nokia is really taking their time.

Hope the update comes out soon! I like the N97 hardware but in hindsight I should of gone for an HTC Android phone, at least that might not always crash in phone calls.

I'm in the same boat as you thinking I should have bought something else.

When I bought mine it was an impulse buy I just got caught up in the hype and bought it. Traveling through London Heathrow and I saw it in the Duty Free Zone Nokia store. I bought it and have been disappointed ever since thanks to the UI, keyboard, well I’m sure you all know the rest.

Hope Ver. 20 makes it usable or this will most likely be my last Nokia device or Nokia Sxx device.

this phone stinks and is fast creating a really bad name for nokia and nokia development.
rushing stuff to market is just bad practice.

Version 2.0 is out!! As of right now, you can only update it on the Nokia Software Update on your PC - it should be available through the software update on your phone within 24-48 hours.

Works great - phone is instantly faster, kinetic scrolling is a nice touch. You also actually have letters on the dial pad now too. Well worth the update.

Anybody with RM-505 set get the v20 upgrade yet? At this time of writing I can't seem to perform an update be it via PC or Phone.

By the way, v2.0 was accompanied by an iSync plugin for the N97. I just posted a quick review on my blog at bit.ly/2HqLu6 (apologies for the self-promo, its just a little easier to point you to my blog post than rehash my experience here).
