Feature question: can Notepad notes be transferred to a PC?

I'm interested in buying an LG Touch (or LG Env3). from Verizon.
One of the little extra features of phone, is a text editor "Notepad". (shown under Settings and Tools in the user manual).. I want to be able to write short notes, like meeting notes, or to-do list, or a memo outline, etc. and then later transfer this to my PC.

I see in user manual that there is a Sync function -- but this appears to be for songs, pictures, video. Not for contacts .. and no info about notes saved in Notepad editor.

Similar, maybe I could save to MicroSD card, and then use that to transfer. But no info, if a note or Notepad file, can be saved or copied to microSD card. Just info about songs, pictures, etc.

Also, maybe I could write text message and email it to myself. But I assume this would be a 140 or 150 character limit. So a longer note text wouldn't go through unless broken up. And sending a text message for each little chunk of text would cost 20 cents, or require a monthly text plan.

Can I just transfer to PC via a USB cable, or via Bluetooth ?

Also, is there a max characters limit (500?, 1000?) on the size of a note in the LG Touch Notepad editor?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has a LG Touch and can test and answer.

You can do both USB Cable and Bluetooth, but I think it is just for the SD card. I know that I connected my laptap via bluetooth and could read things off of the SD Card. I 'll have to check it out with the phone tomorrow to see if you can actually see files on the phone. There are no options when editing the notepad file on the phone for syncing it or sending it via cable/BT. You can "copy" all of the text from a Notepad file, but I'll be darned if I can figure out where to "paste" it.

With that said, I can tell you that I DO use the notepad for several things: grocery lists, TO DO lists, saving my families library card numbers for easy access, etc. I have not noticed a character count, such as in the Text Message screen.

The other nice feature of the EnV Touch is the Document Viewer for viewing Word, Excel, and PF files. Very nice, indeed. Can't edit them, but can view them, zoom them, etc.

I really like the phone. My only complaint would be the speaker placement muffles the sound a bit.

I've been wondering this as well, as it would make writing for my blog way easy. I'll mess around with my phone and post the results, gimme a few minutes.

So as far as I can tell, there is not a way (at least without using, say, bitpim) to pull text off the device. Also, I can't find an easy service to text to, that would save as a document. Here's my solution. I have google voice, it took about 5 days to get an invite, and I guess not everyone can get in, but I text my google voice number the message. That seems to work well.

Thanks for the helpful replies.
After doing more web searching and reading myself, I still don't have an answer to my question -- but I appreciate the information provided. In case it might be helpful, I'll post some related information I've found.

1. Notepad copy paste.
I read that you can copy text from the Notepad editor and paste it into text messages. However, I could not find any such instructions in the Env Touch pdf user manual (while the word "copy" is in several places in the manual, the word "paste" does not appear in the user manual)

2. Documentation
LG has a PDF datasheet and PDF User Guide available for download at this link.
If the Env Touch Document viewer can view PDFs, you could carry around the user guide on the phone (although likely can't look at the guide AND use another phone function at the same time).
www.lge.com/us/mobile-phones/LG-VX11000.jsp

3. Transferring data.
There are several options and software.
So it looks like there is software to transfer music, pictures, videos, contacts, calendar info, maybe text messages. But unknown if Notepad notes can be transferred.

Syncing Contacts and Calendar info between MS Outlook and the Env Touch.
LG has a product, LG Env Outlook Sync, and download and info about how to do this, at this link:
www.lgmobilephones.com/outlook.aspx

There are several vendors, free and paid, of software to transfer data between the Env Touch and a computer (usually Windows PC).
BitPim is a free product: www.bitpim.org/
SyncCell is commercial, $30. www.synccell.com/
DataPilot is commercial, with several products, range of prices, depending on software and what cables / adapters are included. $30 and up.
datapilot.com/phonesupport/en_US/Verizon/LG/2362/V...

Verizon sells a "Mobile Office Kit", which I think is about $50 (maybe $25 web price from other web vendors). This is more for using the phone as a wireless modem to connect a notebook computer to the internet -- but it might also have some data transfer functions / features. See: www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/mobileoptions/mobileof...

Also, the SyncCell site FAQ has a link to a Verizon "Bluetooth Functionality Chart" chart, for what data can be transferred via Bluetooth, from different phones from various manufacturers. The chart is outdated, because it only lists the LG Env2 and LG Voyager, and not the Env3 and Touch. (page 2 of the chart has the LG phones). See support.vzw.com/pdf/BT_Chart_Handsets.pdf

4. Sending text from computer/PC to the phone, using Verizon. (The opposite direction from what I asking about).
To send text to your phone, email it to YourCellPhoneNumber @vtext.com (@vzwtxt.com might also work). Similarly, to send a picture to your phone, email it to YourCellPhoneNumber @vzwpix.com. The pictures can also be viewed on web if you have a MyVerizon account.

More info regarding BitPim.

per the latest BitPim release notes at SourceForge.net
(Changes in 1.0.7) the next released version will include support for the Env3 (vx9200) and Env Touch (vx110000)
" * New phone support: LG VX-11000 (Initial)
* New phone support: LG VX-9200 (Initial) "

Also, the release notes for the current version 1.0.6 mentions support or bug fixes for LG Notepad (or "Note Pad") on earlier LG models, such as the vx6100, vx8550, vx8600, vx8800, vx10000. So maybe the notepad notes on the vx11000 will soon (or eventually) be supported with BitPim.

I know this isn't a direct answer to your question, but if you can't sync notes with a PC, I'm sure there are web apps you can use that you could access from the Touch and from a PC. Maybe even native apps, I'm not sure what the app store is like on the Touch. Apple's App Store has a program I use that, while I don't use the feature, you can sync a list to an online account so you and others can view it on a PC or another device.

Also, I would suggest pasting the note to an e-mail and e-mailing it to yourself. That would be much MUCH more efficient than pasting into texts. Also, you can most likely save drafts of e-mails, so if your e-mail account is synced with something like gmail, you can just save drafts of stuff to your e-mail account, where it will be available on your PC.

Don't have a direct answer to your question though, sorry.

Since my orig post, I got the phone.
I used latest version of Bitpim (1.07.xxxx -- still in Beta) and the LG usb modem driver.

The notes typed in from the phone -- show up under the Memo folder in BitPim.
So the answer is Yes, you can transfer notes from the EnvTouch Notepad app, to a winXP PC, using a cable and BitPim.

For max length: I typed in a few long notes on the PC, used BitPim to transfer to the phone. They got cut off at 300 characters. So that's the limit.

Also, in case anyone is interested in exporting the text of a note or notes to an HTML or a plain text file
(in addition to being able to view / copy / paste the notes, from BitPim.)

The notes, and other data, are stored in the file bitpim.db ; it is a Sqlite database file, and it is stored (or more specifically, where it is stored on my Win XP PC),
in My Documents BitPim bitpim.db

There's a couple techniques for getting one or all of the notes text into a separate PC file, either HTML or text. (in addition to the copy/paste technique)
Note that Bitpim has an export command .. but the export is for contacts, calendar, etc Not for notes text.
However, there is a Print command
To use, in BitPim, select the memo item in the tree listing and one note (or if allowed, select more than one note. Then File, Print.
The print dialog gives options for printing (actually exporting) the note(s) to an HTML file.

To export to plain text, first do a one-time setup, of the Generic Text printer in Windows.
Use Windows control panel, add Printer. And add a local printer, choose port FILE: (rather than the default LPT1 parallel port) The select the type/ manufacturer Generic, and add the Generic / Text Only printer.

After this is set up, then from BitPim, you can select the note/ memo, choose File, Print, and "print" using the Generic text printer. Click on "Print" button.
Windows will prompt you for the name of the file (I think you have to type it in, there's no explorer browse button option). The text of the note(s) will b exported to the text file you specified.
