Has anyone tried this:
Starting with 2 of the new AirPort Extreme dual-band routers, use 1 base station to extend the range of the other (main router w/ internet connectivity) on both bands - 2.4GHz and 5GHz - simultaneously?
I've done this with the older, single-band, units successfully, but I'm looking to see if anyone has done this for dual-bands.
Bonus question: if dual-bands work, does guest networking extension (WDS) work?
Discussion about
Experience w/ 2 AirPort Extreme dual-band to extend network on both bands?
I looked on the forums and it is not exactly clear.
For instance, this thread implies yes:

While this thread implies no:

And it seems to be based of off supposition, and not anyone actually trying/using it this way.
I'm extending across 2 floor, and it is an older house, so my existing AEBS (n) needs to be extended on both frequencies to get to all parts.

I am now a proud owner of a new Airport Extreme home network. The first is a non-dual-band (but .n and 1Gb), while the second was dual band. I tried to set the first in .n (5 gHz)mode and have the second relay this signal in .n and .g dual mode. I was able to get my Slimbox (.g) to access the ReadNas SlimServer attached to the first AE, but overall speeds were still poor. After I added a fixed Cat 5E line between the two routers and reconfigured the second AE router, it works great.
GB speed to time machine make this effectively invisible.
5Ghz .n to my macbook pro (snow leopard) and iMac (tiger) is very fast.
No problems with ad-hoc .g connections with ipod touch and Nokia phone.
Until I added a second AE router, I was regretting paying the apple premium for a router; however, setting up such a complex (2 routers- 1 network) system could not have been simpler. Keep me on the "fan boy" list for another year.

For further on this subject try this discussion blog at[ www.tireddonkey.com/files/category-mac-hardware.ht... ] Where this blog discusses various extreme subjects. I followed the blogs solution for extending an ethernet port by throwing a $99 dollar express near the periphery of the network limit, also because I was streaming to a new tv and roku box. Didn't want any pixelation on the wifi network. This works fine, but a little pricy.
