Ever since they upgraded my Motorola Droid (v1) to Froyo I've been seeing really annoying delays.
Basically the main screen keeps losing all my icons for a good 20 seconds. It seems like the 'Home' process is overloaded or is hanging on something. Sliding from panel to panel is glitchy too. If the iphone were on Verizon, I'd switch asap. (And I'm a motorola stockholder :)
+1 to this suggestion. I had similar issues with my 1st D1, which went through all the updates from 2.0. -> 2.2. A warranty replacement D1 unit with Froyo factory installed has done a lot better. You might also want to try rooting the device and using Starts(?), an app that allows you to control with apps start with the phone and run in the background.
The system reset option doesn't work reliably. I have the original Droid I purchased at release and of course it's went through its updates, I've installed apps, system reset my phone twice now, the last being a couple weeks ago and it's back to it's slow self again. I've not loaded all the bloated apps I had on it before, but the one app I use it most for is Pandora. It's super slow and annoying as all get out. I was considering buying a new phone, but I'll hang in there until mine gives up the ghost, and because I just bought a Moto Xoom. I know apples and oranges, but it fills that void I have with my Droid.
Yeah, I've experienced the same thing. I only use my Droid as a backup phone, so it's not that big of a deal, but it is annoying. I think the processor just isn't up to running Froyo properly.
So, I have heard from a few people that it is certain apps that cause this. I semi proved this by resetting my launcher settings in Manage Applications and slowly adding apps back to my home screen. The speed of reloading was fine until I added some items like Angry Birds and Pandora. Since I use the apps on my home screens all the time, I will be sucking it up for now but hope Google can do something about it with 2.3.
Hey, this isn't a bug. What's happenening is that the phone is unloading the launcher to allow the application you are running to have more memory. Since the Droid doesn't have as much mem as the n ewer phones certain apps (such as angry b irds) will cause the phone to unload background apps. Some launchers have options to prevent them from being unloaded like this, but then memory hungry apps might crash.
Sorry for the punctuations error, typing this from the droid and I'm in a hurry.
