With all the talk of global warming, oil spills, and economic frustration, I thought I'd do a quick run down through some of the more interesting and unique gadgets that can be found here - especially those that might be useful in surviving any potential doomsday scenarios.
LaCie XtremeKey USB flash drive - gdgt.com/lacie/xtremkey/
This is perfect for storing all your memories and essential files. It can supposedly survive extreme temperatures and pressures - just like a cockroach. Only much better looking.
Sonim XP3.2 Quest Pro mobile phone - gdgt.com/sonim/xp32/quest-pro/
If you have a USB drive that can survive anything, you need to have a phone that can as well. Drop it, throw it, blow it up. It will probably still work. I bet there's no wrong way to hold it as well. (Look at the product image, if that's not a death grip, I don't know what is.)
NubyTech Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller - gdgt.com/nubytech/resident-evil-4/chainsaw-control...
We may not have chainsaws on gdgt, but when it comes time to fight off hordes of zombies, this could be the next best thing.
Trekstor USB-Stick CO - gdgt.com/trekstor/usb-stick/co/
It's not known for its durability, but it will be useful. When you find yourself locked in a mall or grocery store, waiting for the zombies to break through the doors, you'll probably need a way to open the bottles of beer laying around.
Teknines Nine Millimeter headphones - gdgt.com/teknines/nine-millimeter/
I can't speak for their sound quality, but it might come in handy as a last resort when you're running low on ammo. In the meantime, you'll need something to plug it into...
NU Dolphin Swimmer - gdgt.com/nu/dolphin-swimmer/
(I'll admit, I'm stretching here. What's a good, rugged MP3 player?) You'll probably need something that could hold up to inclement weather (does acid rain count?) This is water proof. And really, that's probably the only thing going for it. 1GB of storage, so you can listen to the same 150 songs for the rest of your life!
What gadgets would you make sure are in your bag if doomsday suddenly decides to show up? (Bonus points for gdgt links!)

Essential gadgets for surviving an apocalypse?
I'm pretty sure infrastructure being taken out is going to be one of the biggest problems, so I'm voting for a solar charger www.solio.com/charger/ to keep the other stuff going. While the XP3.2 is good.... I'd look for a satphone rather than a GSM phone: it's harder to break stuff in orbit.
