Seems as if you got a better deal than me in the cost of your iPad and you may have a better deal on your monthly rate, too. Obviously older than you, I was forced, due to AT&T's unchallengeable billing practices, to pay their atrociously inflated monthly telephone rates, for well-over 40 years. I'll be damned, now that the digital age has given me the option, of ever, ever, ever giving AT&T another penny! The reason I held off purchasing an iPhone was, until either Apple broadened its provider contract to another, or until another superphone option was offered (my Droid.) I will applaud whenever AT&T ceases to exist. Karma y'know!
