Engineers use iPad powered AR.Drone Parrot to examine earthquake damaged Christchurch cathedral.

An earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand earlier this week damaged a hundred and six year old cathedral. Worried that the building was too unstable for humans to venture into, engineers bought a Parrot drone to fly into the building.

Check out the video -- it's pretty neat! ( www.3news.co.nz/VIDEO-Inside-Christchurchs-Cathedr... )

Via the article: " “Even if we lost it in the building ‘cause we're never quite sure with the wi-fi range or the battery life, but if it turned out to be a suicide mission it's a $500 one not a far more serious one,” says Opus engineer Nicholas Dawe."

Pretty crazy. I know a lot of people love these iPhone / iPad drones for the augmented reality stuff that can be done with them. I think this is the first time they've been used for something serious?

Awesome how we keep finding useful and innovative ways of putting cool technology like this to work! Now I can't wait for the AR.Drone Submarine!

This reminds me of Half-Life 2's Combine City Scanners.
