Does anyone think there's been some lack of foresight with this name?

I don't care about female health jokes but over the past view weeks I've lost count of the number of times that iPod was said instead of iPad or vice-cersa, and often in a context where it wasn't too easy to tell which was actually meant.

I agree but you could argue that Apple did this intentionally therefore getting both the iPad and iPod/iPhone name in the news cycle, even if it is by mistake. I know it's a stretch but this is Apple were talkin about here...

Not compared to the even larger, flexible version coming 2013 - the iSheet.

Yeah, I've heard several times on CNN and the local news the word iPod used instead of iPad. At least they are both Apple products, and are easy to distinguish from each other visually.

Agreed, its very similar and may end up hurting the brand much like Verizon's Droid branding has been influencing people to refer to all Android phones as "Droid Phones". Then again that could just be consumer ignorance.
