Does anyone else agree that they would still rather have this then the Nook Color or w/e it is called?
I like e-ink, and if you ask me this is still the best reader out there. the Kindle 3 is nice but its more of a status Icon. This clearly has a much better community and library of free books.I just got a Blue battery cover and now my Nook is unique.
I'd definitely rather have the nook than the nookcolor but I still think the Kindle is a better device. The Kindle is more refined all around and I would argue that the nook has a considerably weaker body of content available to it. The nook is also a much heaver and thicker device with a screen that has less contrast and the battery is also not as good.
I would disagree with almost all of those statements except that it is a thicker and heavier device. In an household that has both, the new OS for the Nook is a significant improvement and the screen refresh is almost on par with the new Kindle. The screen contrast is only noticeable in side-by-side comparisons and the real world battery life between the two devices are both much lower than advertised. I am fully in the Kindle camp myself, but lets not cut the legs out from under the Nook.
Your statements are technically true and in lab situations apply, but in the real world, sitting on a couch reading them together, which I do with my wife, they are almost the exact same device.

I've owned both. My Kindle was broken in Iraq, so I bought a Nook when I returned. The Nook has more potential thanks to the touch screen, but most of it hasn't been realized, and the Kindle's software feels like it has been thought out and implemented better. Having played with the Nook Color at a Barnes & Noble, it feels like more of a slide into the tablet area, with less of an emphasis on reading.
I can buy that. However, I don't think that the original nook will get any software updates that fully take advantage of its touchscreen because it seems like Barnes & Noble went all in with the nookcolor.
Price is also a determining factor in this product space because the Kindle is well into impulse purchase territory for a lot of people but the nookcolor at $249 takes a bit more thought.

I don't really agree with all of your statements, but I do agree that I would rather have the Nook over the Nook Color - merely due to the screen difference. Any ereader I own will have to have an e-ink screen rather than a LCD due to the readability difference.
Also, the battery life is severely reduced when going from an e-ink reader to LCD screen! And unless you're using it solely for magazines and children's story books, I don't really see what you gain by using the NOOKcolor besides a backlit screen. For the price you pay compared with what you "gain" from that premium, I really don't think the color is worth even looking at right now... at least not for me.
