Does anyone actually think that this Dell Streak has a place in the market.
I mean it is too big for the pocket (being larger than a mobile phone) and too small for a good sized tablet experience (like the iPad). Also it does not make calls (I think). Also seems to be hampered by Android 1.6, so unless hacked to upgrade it would be behind on all the 2.1 and 2.2 goodness. Thoughts anyone?

No, it is just small enough to fit in a pocket. It is small enough to be, unlike the iPad.... Truly Portable.

Again, no... It is just large enough to allow for easy web browsing, eBook reading, video watching... etc. Without being so large that it is no longer pocketable.
See, for me when the iPad was just a rumor(iSlate), I had a dream device in mind:
- 5-ish inch screen.(Large than a phone, more portable than a netbook)
- Phone capability.
- Multitasking.
- Front facing camera.
and a few others...
The streak is all of them, while the iPad is none.

Uhm, perhaps you need to get your facts straight. Dell has already confirmed that it would get the upgrade to Froyo, and YES it DOES make calls........perhaps you havent even seen a review of this unit? It fits perfectly in a pocket, unless maybe you rock skinny jeans like your one of the New Boyz.........so try again buddy
Don't need cargo pants, really -- my regular-fit UNIQLO jeans can easily fit my Streak. :)

I think large screen smartphones will definitely have a place in the market. How big is the question. This has a 5 inch screen, the EVO 4G has a 4.3 inch screen as with the HD2. Though this category of device may eventually be replaced by smaller phones with higher resolution screens... (BTW it does make calls)
The size is absolutely compelling to me. The problem is that I would like the resolution to be 1024x600-ish to make the size worthwhile.
