I have had this router for months and was impressed with its range and the fact that I could broadcast on the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies at the same time. But with surprising frequency, the WiFi kept dropping out, only on the 2.4 GHz level. Usually it was when I had just initiated a new action on either my laptop or iPod Touch. To reenable, all I had to do was walk over to the router and turn off the WiFi broadcast and turn it back on. A minor inconvenience, but still, it was irritating.
Right after the new year, I heard about the WPS security vulnerability (if you're not familiar, please read about it: https://threatpost.com/en_us/blogs/wifi-protected-... ). I went into my router options and disabled WPS. I have not had a dropped WiFi signal since.
If you are having issues with dropped signal, disable WPS.
On a side note, any security experts: Does this mean my neighbor was trying to brute force my WPS pin?
- If it makes a difference, I was running dual 2.4 and 5 on a network that did not broadcast its SSID. I did not change anything except turning off WPS.
