Despite all the critical bashing, I still want one as my living room stereo.
I currently don't have a entertainment center and the small setup with a pair of thrift store speakers would be nice. If I could get one used or discounted it would be great. I have a several android devices already to use with it. I am probably more of the targeted market than many of the home theater enthusiasts with stacks of devices hooked up to their mega stereo.
why this over a $100 Google TV device like the Sony Internet player or the Vizio Co-Star?
i think the device is interesting but i just can't justify the cost for something i don't really see a lot of uses for. The google TV boxes are cheaper and let me access the play store directly with out having to stream content from another device.
Now the potential the device has i find interesting. i wonder what Google is seeing this device becoming down the road.

Part of the appeal to me is not using a screen or tv in the setup. Just an attractive device on the shelf in the living room with speakers hooked up. Start streaming music or podcasts using my phone or tablet when I get home. I think I would enjoy one, but I don't think folks with living rooms already full of stereos or TV's would. This setup would be similar to an airport express with a pair of computer speakers plugged in for streaming music. Not worth $300 to me, but with the critics saying what they are, I am hoping to pick one up for less.
Ok, that make sense but there are other and cheaper ways to stream music wireless around a home. I live in a small apart and use my Jawbone Jambox to play media off my tablets and phone over bluetooth.
i just have a hard time spending the 300 bucks for this. i think its an interesting device but if i wanted just a music streaming device there are other options out there even some speakers now support this over bluetooth and i think even over wifi. for the Play content I can always get a used Logitech Revue for about 50 bucks or a new Google TV play for about 100 bucks. I agree with you though if i see one out there used for a good price i am likely to pick one up, but the 300 is just too much right now.
I think and like to hope that this was not ready yet when they released it but had planned and bought the hardware for release at I/O. So they did. the hard ware specs are way higher then what you need for just a streaming device. I hope that with some software updates and 3rd party stuff it will be a much better device. i wonder if the folks over at CyanogenMod or some other hacking community may release a new version of the OS for or even port a version of Google TV that does what this device already does plus adds some of the GTV functionality to the player.
